1st day denotes welcome where importance is given to prosperity shown through décor (kolam or rangoli) through lights and sweets; 2nd day denotes victory 3rd day focuses on wealth and prosperity and is on new moon day (total darkness which is actually inauspicious) but Lakshmi pooja is performed; 4th day is for success and relationship; a great day to start any new venture. Some places they call it Padwa to renew husband and wife relationship. 5th day is to strengthen ties between brothers and sisters. It is believed that brothers who get blessing from their sisters on this day will live long because death god Yama got the pottu (tilak) from his sister Yami and vowed he won’t destroy loving brothers or sisters on that day.
