| Hi sreedhar,
"The grass is greener on the other side". If you can see what i mean, then you might have made your decission by now.
Hi S M,
How much rent are you willing to shell out per month and which zones do you intend to live in? I guess affordability and time to travel are the issues here when considering a place to move into. Croydon is a good area indeed. Try checking out with the local letting/property agents.
cheers

your classmates dont seem to have a fair enough idea of the current market situation in the UK. Putting myself in your shoes, I will grab that job(provided there are no catches in its contract) without any hesitation. Before grabbing a job here, there are few things you actually need to look into, not alone the salary. Check for the notice period for termination from either party. From the pay package, I can assume that its a permanent job. So better lookout for the clause which says when you will be considered as a permanent employee of the organisation normally the probation period is for six months, 2ndly lookout for the termination clause, how much compensation the company has got to offer, 3rdly check if their is any relocation clause..the list can build on this way..
bottomline is GRAB the JOB, currently market is DEAD.
a word of caution, go over the contract or terms and conditions thoroughly.
all the best and congrats
cheers
Posted by: Pavan At: 8, Aug 2002 11:43:07 PM IST thanks pavan. i have just been offered a job for £35000 in london. everybody (british classmates) is telling me its too less. what's yr opinion??
Posted by: Mr. S M At: 8, Aug 2002 11:30:39 PM IST Hi S M,
As per a recent survey by the daily mirror, the current wages for minimum survival in london(the costliest city in UK) is 4.20£ per hour. There are plans to increase the wages to 4.70£ per hour. The survey accounts accomodation(on sharing basis), 2 meals per day but no breakfast and 2 or 3 pints of beer a week + travel within a single zone on a daily basis.
The above wages assure that a person can keep himself going but not a comfortable/good life(comfortable is relative term, depending on the way a person looks at it).
I hope the above info will be useful for you to calculate the wages required for a good life.
Hi sreedhar,
run a check on the most frequently used job search engines in the UK like jobserve.com,jobsite.co.uk,reeds.co.uk, visionit.co.uk. The results might help you in getting a fairly good idea of the current software situation for any job nature/technologies.
cheers

sorry i got your name wrong in the earlier posting. The AA's meeting was held at IndianYMCA in central london. So they might be able to help you out. As far as I know, there is no particular place where most telugu's meet however, you can find more of their numbers either in Hounslow area or East Ham.
cheers

Posted by: Pavan At: 7, Aug 2002 11:07:50 PM IST hello chakravarthy..
as a new entrant to UK it is obvious that you are eager to meet telugu people in the UK via the associations. Well, do not have high expectations about what these associations have got to offer. They are a big bore( how the crowd welcomes a new comer or their frequency of meeting fellow members). I attended a meeting of the andhra association in the first week i came over here. That was way back in October and was utterly dissappointed.
Well, if you are very much interested in knowing about this association try contacting the indianymca in London. They might be able to give you some contact details about the association. The AA's(andhra association's) website is a damp squib. Does not provide any contact information or their annual agenda etc..
so my friend, try creating on u r own space here rather than searching around for an association.
