The use of camera phones in very special places — defence establishments, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), currency printing press, Balaji Temple or Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) — might have serious implications for national security thus requiring a ban on the use of cameras and camera phones. However, there is no merit in a blanket ban on using camera phones. First and foremost, in a country known for poor implementation of any policy (though very good at forming many sound policies), this will be one more irritant and a nuisance for the general public; a sure invitation to harassment from police personnel, that an average Indian citizen endlessly endures. This is particularly to be avoided as the bulk of camera phone users are youngsters who are getting their first taste with their “own” camera and a personal “phone”. Second, India is a country with such rich flora and fauna, scenic spots, hills and valleys, varied cultures, splendid variety of attire, and festivities that need to be “discovered” by every Indian. Camera phones are the best bet for millions of Indians to discover India, capture its rich colours and hues, and share the experience with their family and friends effortlessly. The ordinary camera (with the attendant costs of film, efforts in printing at a studio, and the expensive costs of mailing the photographs) would never enthuse these youngsters to “capture” India so well. By “instantly” publishing it on oPhoto and other sites, there is a lot of “sharing” that is happening, which is well worth encouraging. We are one of the largest users of SMS in the world; with camera phones getting so affordable, we will soon be the largest users of MMS as well! Camera fitted phones are the fastest selling mobile phones today. In terms of price performance, camera phones are the “best” in terms of “value for money”. An average Indian is very good at “eyeing” those with the highest “bang for the buck”. Widespread availability of camera phones amongst millions of our youngsters will lead to unusual applications — viewing the details of a remote patient, capturing the details of a speeding car that is “speeding away” and mailing it to the police station at electronic speeds; capturing the image of a certificate (caste certificate, mark sheet, appointment letter, or a degree certificate) in a remote area with no access to electricity and a copier, — the list will go on. By “banning” such a useful device we are “killing” all such potential application possibilities. Each and every one of them can lead to significant improvements in the “quality of life” for an average citizen. Personal computer as a general purpose “computer” available and accessible to many, has unleashed amazing application possibilities in India. Camera phones would lead to yet another wave of innovative applications. Banning such a potential device would NOT be in the larger interests of India.

Hello BB now you sounds reasonable. BB nuvvu cheppindi kaamaniki paraakaashta. now a days cell is so imp that as imp as valet. people carrying like that. camara is a appriciation to all those cell users to carry their sweet memories with them. In olden days9even now) most of the people carry their family photo in their valet. In this plastic money age u don't need to carry complete valet. just a small plastic card servers most of your purposs. We shouldn't ban such a beautiful appriciation just because some stupid idiots misusing it. when your bars (rich) raise high. you should try to see good side. if they try to see negative side. they will slip like this dsp kids.

"choopincharaadu" anukunte, gattigaa patti unche battalesukunte sari. kadaa!?! ayinaa, manalo pasi biddaki paalichche tallulni chaatugaa choosi kaamaprakopitulayye prajalu unnaru anna vishayam ee aadaalleppudoo gurtu pettukovaali. actually, a phone should be a phone and a camera should be a camera. what is the great fantacy of having a tiny camera in a phone?

ohhh man BB u almost killed me....... i see your point..... hey man fresh guys (college) dashing and all or diff. That leads to ethics. Until the dashed girls slaps every time the dashed guy. you can't stop. so one always takes chance. And other point you can't ban a good usefull technology for some peeping toms. none of the changes in this world comes with all good. Untill you found some thing that counters that, you have to live with it. peruguTa viruguTa korakE In your case you should ban internet. whihc is much more bigger threat and more danger than camara phones.

Sorry Mr Nagesh! It is not ideal case. I can't say that it is me, but there are people in my own office, who stand at a particular corner to give a "dash" to some chicks. And in places like TIDEL Park in our Hell, there are always plenty of chances of taking such snaps, especially at food court, ice cream corner, or parking... I'll tell you one small incident. A woman came and parked the bike, opened the bike's dicky which is located under the seat to keep her scarf etc and that much of small time gap is sufficient to take a snap, if, so called "maron" is there. I bet you can see plenty of such marons in TIDEL park.
