General Forum: Govt. and Politics | Abdul Kalam | |
| Honestly, I cannot think of a man with abundant knowledge of weapons, will use his power of knowledge for peace.
He talks of secularism and visits Satya Sai Baba to seek blessings from. What an irony.
One may believe in baba, I don't have objection. But why call himself a secular?
Posted by: Mr Rammohan Rao Javvadi At: 15, Jul 2002 1:18:04 PM IST Dr Kalam is obvious choice for the presidential post.
Besides the plus points like - "being younger" than many others whose names have been suggested he can do work more 'efficiently' and as is a nuclear man he qualifies as 'Commander in chief of Armed forces' ....he is much more.
He is a person with VISION. A person who set the Goals (realistic) and has the action plan with him. In these days where many parties can grab the power without even a substantial set principles and goals...we find a person who thinks about the nation's problems and attempts to solve them with a SOLID PLAN. A plan from an intellect.
The speeches are not just same as what were delivered by any president on Aug 14th, because they are not prepared for the 'formality' of being presented on 14th but they come from the heart and mind of person. There was never a neccesity for him to prepare such speeches...he never aimed at politics. Those speeches are made not because he 'has' to give some speech but because he wanted to be listened.....there is difference.
By now everyone must have read article by Dr Kalam 'My three Visions of India'.... the force in that speech and the urge for the people is not artificial && higly motivating. It suggests he thinks about nation . THe beauty about him is not just thnking and some statements getting passed ...its about how he tries to solve the problems - ACTION.
One can go through his article in www.vvasan.hypermart.net/kalam.html. Though this article doesn't deal with numbers && staticstics it gives a rough scketch about his thinking - a more practical down to earth goals. yes, the idea of 'developed nation' is there in our mind for years but in form of vague statments ..... even if pinpointed , never with a realistic vision. Thats how Dr Kalam is different. And this is what that makes him qualified above the rest for the presidential post.
Posted by: Ms Samatha G At: 5, Jul 2002 11:20:15 AM IST I am reading all the points. But I don't understand why the presidential nomination became such a big issue this time. I think Abdul Kalam has done something big for the country, no doubt. But it was in the interests of the country's defence only and not in the interests of the comman man.
Why should a common man on the street bother about "anvastraalu"? He is rightly justified if he needs just "anna vastraalu".
Abdul Kalam cannot guide the central government on "anna vastraalu", and the general people living below poverty line need not think about "anvastraalu".
Probably on this lone ground we can dismiss the candidature of Abdul Kalam for the President's post.
Surely he fits the post of some superior missile program.
Posted by: Ms Kousalya Karri At: 4, Jul 2002 0:08:46 AM IST Its time to rejuvenate Indian spirit, Dr.Kalam is not only a scientist but also a great patriot. His focus on Indian defense and development of India is very clear. Some body criticized that he has no knowledge about Indian constitution, its not a matter for him to go through it and get acquainted in a short time than those who spent their hole life to understand what actually it says. I guess everybody can accept his candidature for the president of India. Now he got a very good chance to speak to the nation, to the public, he is very close to an ideal Indian intelligentsia. No matter how he looks,
it’s all his words, which would bring the youth to know what they ought to do. I love his way of thinking, "dream it and do it".
Posted by: Mr HaribabuReddy Singam At: 30, Jun 2002 11:22:53 PM IST i hope his promotion as the president is right when compared with other nominees. In this a person of good intellectual capacity must be in such a critical and prestegious position. today we can't believe ont eh proccedings of the government as it may change its opnions.
Posted by: Mr. Krishna Kalyan Kancherla At: 30, Jun 2002 12:52:29 PM IST Abdul Kalam is like a typical intellectual. He does not mind how he or his hair looks. Also he does not know about certain formalities. That is why he has a flowing hair.
Let us not bother about it.
But if he had a hair cut and presents himself in a tailor made suit, he could look like a fitting statesman among foreign dignitaries whenever he goes out to attend international political conferences.
Posted by: Mr Rammohan Rao Javvadi At: 26, Jun 2002 9:48:09 AM IST In this stage(Elections are near) I want to say only one thing i.e :i like Kalam and a also like Laxmi.S,so i am in confusion both are very very good
Posted by: Mr. nageshwararao mulinti At: 25, Jun 2002 5:23:08 PM IST Abdul Kalam is not only a scientist but a great patriot. He loves India so much beyond caste and creed. Our nation can never afford to forget his service to the country. This is my assertive opinion about Dr. Abdul Kalam.
Hence I believe he could become a good statesman.

Posted by: Mr. M.S.Reddy At: 22, Jun 2002 11:32:01 PM IST Hi sreenivas
I totally agree with u'r point that religon should not come inthe way of a person ,i am Indian and feel that secular India is so good for us but political parties try to use religion and that is so sad,as a person i have regards for the great work done by Dr Kalaam i totally agree with it.
I think we should all wash our brain with secular spirit
Atrocities against any human beeing is wrong,he has life.
Dont think that i an not proud that a scientific well talented man is getting elected for the highest office it's just the bringing of religion in this which bothers me.
Religion is individual choice and no body has right to interfer in individuals own matters.
Thanks
