No religion, ever offered anything of constructive value to human life,in the sense of blind belief, belief unsupported by, or contrary to, the facts of reality and the conclusions of reason. Faith, as such, is extremely detrimental to human life: it is the negation of reason. But you must remember that religion is an early form of philosophy, that the first attempts to explain the universe, to give a coherent frame of reference to man's life and a code of moral values, were made by religion, before men graduated or developed enough to have philosophy. And, as philosophies, some religions have very valuable moral points. They may have a good influence or proper principles to inculcate, but in a very contradictory context and, on a very - how should I say it? - dangerous or malevolent base: on the ground of faith .....just remembering a quote from Ayn Rand

We are discussing the relevence of religion in the light of materialistic advancement and it is high time that we realise its relvence today and alter our life style to get tuned up to nature as otherwise we have to meet the consequences and suffer for our own ignorance!

Our present is the result of past and the future depends up on our present, so learning from the past experiences of our elders we need not repeate the same mistake if we want to learn from the past. Hinduism is not a religion it is a way of life and people who do not realise this feel that our present generation is not following religion or religious practises. Ours is a most modern and flexible tradition and that is why we could develop tolerance and empathy which is totally absent in other religions. That is why we have even a muslim as president of our country unlike other religion based countries. It indicatesour culture and tradition but my only regret is we failed to take the good from our past and redicule the tradition in the name of modern culture. It is right that temples remind us the existence of Gods but can not influence our life pattern conducive to present day environment.

Intolerance and violence seem to be the motto of todays religious fanatics. (Dalai Lama)

// Good question, believe whatever you feel comfortable. Then you will be called as ' believer' of so & so.. // I am not the one who blindly believes the stuff which was said earlier generations just for the heck of it.. // - OhO! I don't remember of my days during Ashoka period! // --Oho! then u were there during ten incarnations ?If not why the hell u r believing it?Just b'coz ur elders told u?..HUHHHHH

Religion is the main cause of all the wars..THIS IS THE TRUTH U GUYS HAVE TO DIGEST.. U may think our mantras r great ..islams think there jihadi laws r great ,as they think that is the shortcut to reach to God..Christians think there prayers r great and the whole world should follow christianity.. There u Go!!!..the war has already began.... If u read bible ..it is clearly stated that there god created the universe ..Koran say Allah created whole universe ..any we hindhus believe Brahma created whole universe(BRAHMAND).. And the point to noted is Mr.JOGA RAO says that nature is the ultimate power and everything is derived from NATURE(MAHA MAAYA)!! But in the above staements from Bible,Koran or whatever..universe means nature is also included in that...Right Mr.Raghu? Then u tell me which one believe!!!

Its not that blindly I am denying that God is not there...or specific religion is bad!! U tell me if religion is man made then why not God is man's creation!! According to Mr JP heaven and hell r imaginary...they r created on earth by deeds of human beings. According to myths in all religions Gods live in heaven and devils live in hell!! Then ,if according to Mr JP heavens r imaginary...there is no place for God to live..that derives that Gods r also imaginary..right Mr Raghu?

// I was an athiest so I know what goes inside an athiest's mind. // In one posting u say u r athiest and the psoting after that u say... // My "upanayanam" has been performed at the age of 8. Now I am 31 years old. For the past 23 years I am doing "sandhya vandanam" except for a short period of 6months. // So u were athiest before the age of 8 or in that period of six months? And for ur kind info..mantras or shlokas r written by humans..Did any god came down to earth and said u hv to enchant this mantra to please me? No..if that is the case then Gods from each religion might hv came down and told only those people believing that religion to enchant mantra specific to that religion!!! ///// Loosing the interest indicates deviation of mind to something else. If that something else is more useful than the earlier one...well...no objections. But if it is the other way round then the person has to be blamed but not the ritual/tradition. /////// For loosing the interest ..the person has to show interest in that in first place..its not like giving preference to science over religion.. Raghu, I want to ask u one thing... u r aware of that shloka.. yadha yadha hi dharmasya glaanirbhavati bhaarata Abhyudhanamadharmasya tadatmaanam Srujamyaham. (Whenever there is decay of dharma (relegion) and an ascendancy of Adharma (irrelegion) then god manifests himself.) Kashmir lo dharmam peru meedha ,more than 10 yrs nunchi kottukoni chasthunnaru...enno yrs nunchi ,all over world ,religion peru meedha godavalu avuthunnayi.. Then why there is no incarnation of god in this Yuga to save those innocent people.. Is there any count for God that so many people ..or so many yrs I hv to wait before incarnating? And again if God incarnates ..is it specific country based ..b'coz nobody knows our God outside our country..so obviously people from every religion will think that..Vishu will incarnate to save Hindus..Allah will incarnate to save muslims..Jesus will come again and save Christians?
