For me, all this sounds as a great marketing effort by the Multinational Insurance companies. Those companies are trying to grab as much business as possible from India. There is a possibility of an insurance fraud behind the collapse of the satellite also - to push India / ISRO towards insurance. In India, there is a possibility of corruption everywhere.
Even in USA, situation is almost similar at high end areas. There is a saying in USA - you to to any city in the US, and find out the tallest building in that city. It is always an Insurance Company Building. Let's not get trapped in to this - in my opinion, ISRO should not buy any insurance. It's ridiculous to pay 50 to 100 crore for each satellite just for insurance. With that money, we can do more research in the ISRO itself, and I think India should ban "space insurance" and any high cost insurance that benefits the foreign companies.
