Lot of interesting puzzles, Thank you, try this one...
A boulder of 40kg was fallen from a height and broken into 4 pieces. Now using these 4 pieces with a balance, one can weigh any thing from 1 kg to 40kg with 'kg' precission, now tell ... what are the weights of the pieces?

divide the 12 coins in three groups of 4 each.
weigh any two gorups....
CASE(i) :
if they r equal,then the third group contains the defective.
now,take three coins from the defective group and weigh them against the normal coins.
subcase(i) :
if they r equal,then the fourth coin is the defective and can be weighed against the normal coin and can be found whether it is lighter or heavier....hence done...
subcase(ii) :
if they r not equal,then one of three coins weighed above is the defective one and we can know how defective it is (i.e) heavier or lighter....
now take any two coins from the "three" coins and weigh them and if they r not then the defective can be found as we already know how defective it is....or else if they r equal,then the third coin is the defective....hence done....
CASE(ii) :
if they r not equal.....
then defective is in these eight coins.....
call these two sets as lighter and heavier sets.....

Lets take three coins(left balance),two from heavier set and one from lighter set and weigh them against another three coins(right balance),two from heavier set and one normal coin...
Three cases arises...
(i) they weigh equal
(ii)left side will be heavier
(iii)right side will be heavier
(i) if they r equal,then heavier coins r normal,ones and the defective is a lighter coin and is one of the remaining three lighter coins.we can find the defective one by weighing any two of them.
(ii)if left balance is heavier....that means the balance containing 2 coins from heavier set and one coin from lighter set.
since it is heavier,we can obviously say that,the defective is heavier and is one of those two coins and the defective one can be found easily by next weighing..
(iii) if the right balance is heavier,then
either the lighter one in the left balance is defective or one of the heavier ones in the right balance is defective...
now,weigh these two heavier coins...if they r equal,then the defective is lighter one or else which one is heavier is the defective one...
haaaaaa.................

take 1 ball from 1st machine,2 balls from second machine...so on....10 balls from 10th machine and weigh them...ideal weight should be 55......enni grams thakkuva vunte anni grams divided by 100 gives the number of the machine...

There are 10 machines. each one is preparing one shot put ball of weight 1 kg at a time .,i.e.,at a time 10 machines are preparing 10 ...but one machine is preparing a defective ball of weight 900gms.,u have given a spring balance.u have to use it only once ., and u can any no. of balls from any machine.,and find the defective machine i.e., producing the ball of weight 900gms
