kandukUri...chaTramlO unDi stRI abhyudayam gurinchi mATlAditE...chalam A chaTrAnne vidhvamsam chEyAlanukunnADu. iddari uddESam okaTE...kAnI Chalam talked about the destruction for the liberation..for it he introduced 'Amir'...a ordinary muslim boy. The Feminist at 'core' is not Kandukuri, but Chalam. Kandukuri or Gurajada were social reformers, but Chalam was for destruction of minds.

Women should be liberated from many things. But his was a narrow view of Feminism dealing with just sexual liberation./
I do not buy this. First we need to understand role of sexual liberation in womens problems and its relation with other 'imortant issues'. Then only you can say he got narrow view. I guess sexual constraints forms the root cause for all problems. By sexually constraining a woman only, paternal society able to suppress them succesfully for thousands of years. And that is the first area any male chauvanist tries to attack a feminist. Chalam infact did the right thing by targetting the root cause. Through that mechanism chalam stress the importance of 'sweccha and samanatvam'. I ask you to read chalams "stree", If you have not read it already. He talks about all issues of women and how they are related. And also Olgas forewords for her novel "swEchcha" and for "neelimEghaalu" - an anhtology of feminist poems. There is a collection of essays of "noorELLa chalam" , But i did not read it yet. They all talk about how sexual liberation forms the basis for all solutions.
/Chalam isnt the father of Feminism in Andhra. there were many feminists who advocated the rights of females./
I can only recall kandukoori viresalingam pantulu advocated the rights of females in pre-chalam time. There was Koduvaganti kutumba rao lived through chalams time, advocated them.
Posted by: Saleem At: 21, Jun 2004 6:45:49 AM IST I remember a quote.. Feminism is a radical notion that females are humans.
Vachaspathi garu,
Chalam isnt the father of Feminism in Andhra. there were many feminists who advocated the rights of females.
Chalam is a great writer but his books mostly deal with sexual liberation of women. He doesnt address many other important issues. Women should be liberated from many things. But his was a narrow view of Feminism dealing with just sexual liberation.

Just wanted to kow what is Feminism!
Posted by: Mr. Vachaspathi V At: 20, Jun 2004 5:32:32 PM IST As I wrote several articles on women and dowry in Andhra Prabha...the response is good. A person wrote an article on feminism...in response. And the editor also wrote a big comment on Chalam, who is Father of Feminism in Andhra Pradesh.
AFter all, What is Feminism?
At core, the Feminism is nothing but a fight, struggle to promote the gender equality.
