Raj,
Instead of adding ..subtract those equation..U will get the value of x as below,
X = 180 + Z.
Then put this value of X in 1st equation..get the value of Y in terms of Z ..means u will get..Y=144 - 2*Z.
Then calculate..X+Y+Z.
With this approach u dont hv to worry about the values ..whether its 72 or 75.

i know that....
just add the two equations,then u will get
(x+y+z)/36 = 9
x + y + z = 36*9 = 224
for example.....if its 75 in place of "72" u cannot solve the problem with the given equations.....

If u solve like this..
x/90 + y/72 + z/60 = 5
x/60 + y/72 + z/90 = 4 ..after few calculations u will get the answer..324.

A car drives downhill with the speed of 90 m/h. On a level road, the same car goes 72 m/h, and uphill it goes "only" 60 m/h.
It takes this car 5 hours to go from town A to town B. The return trip only takes 4 hours.
Find the distance between the two towns.
