| Priya, you violating the deal? :-)
Posted by: Hytech At: 31, Oct 2003 11:12:01 PM IST product of ages is 36. Based on that their ages might be .....
6 x 6 x 1 = 36;
6 x 3 x 2 = 36;
9 x 4 x 1 = 36;
9 x 2 x 2 = 36;
36 x 1 x 1 = 36;
adding the ages gives different values except for 6, 6, 1 and 9, 2, 2. So even after telling the sum he cant able to figure out. But when she said elder is sleeping he cud easily figure out the ages.
Posted by: Sreedhar G At: 31, Oct 2003 11:03:46 PM IST 2,3,6 and 3,3,4 are possible answers ..
Posted by: Narendra Pratap Raju At: 31, Oct 2003 11:02:46 PM IST 9, 2, 2 (door number is 13, so he has two combinations to resolve.. 6, 6, 1 and 9, 2, 2 so when she said eldest is sleeping.. then 6, 6, 1 is invalid).

Ok, one more. I have not checked the answer yet, so lets see if all our answers are unanimous for this one.
A census person goes to a house to collect the data. The woman tells him she has 3 daughters and the product of their ages is 36 and their sum is the house number next door. The man goes out, checks the number and still could not figure out. Then the woman tells him that her eldest daughter is sleeping upstairs. Then the man could tell their ages. What are the ages of the daughters?

So lets stay away from the silly answers. And by the way, sometimes you think too much and too deep and too unconventional, I know we cant help it!
Naren, no 'circula'tion. :-)
Keep going...
