Who is certifying both of you?
First of all it's mother tongue of all telugu people including for those who settled in AP and outside AP.
People tell somany lies; The reality is still awaited; Italy has recognized " Telugu " language and Indian Govt. did not. It's funny; For this reason Late Sree. PSR fought with the govt until his last breath.
Sanskrit or Telugu which one is superior? That is not bothering us. Telugu should become a most popular language by getting more and more recognition ,using widely in the state and gain more National & International awards.
To achieve those things there should be a strong commitment from every one and a strong support from Govt, as well as Industrialists.

First of that satement isnt mine. It is by bha.raa.gO., a famous telugu story writer.

I do not know what is your worry, if telugu being a tribal language. But, Yes telugu was a tribal language. Every language borrows foriegn words, due to economical, cultural interactions and it richens the language vocbulary. Sanskrit influenced telugu language so much, but it also suppressed it. They treated telugu as a very cheap language. sanskrit been considered as so called 'elites' language, and they bombared with vocubluary, we lost so many pure word in telugu. I call it is "chempakaaya koTTaDam" .
As you said, why should we need to measure ourselves in comparison with european language, but why comparison with sanskrit too?
Amost all languages in india borrowed script from brahmi. I am illiterate in sanskrit language, except some slokas learned in childhood, but would like to know if you explain me, how much grammar telugu borrowed from sanskrit? All I know is we borrowed some vRuttaas in meter. I feel telugu has distinctive grammar compared to sanskrit, which puts telugu more close to dravidian languages.

Mr.Saleem, can you explain your statement? How did Sanskrit teluguni oka chempakaaya koTTindi? Can you seperate Sanskrit from Telugu? The language Telugu evolved due to the influence of Sanskrit. Otherwise it would be no differnt from any other tribal language spoken in Andhra. Now I don't mean to insult Tribal languages, after all they are our sister tongues, but telugu is differnt in that it is a highly sophisticated literate language that borrows script (from old Brahmi), grammar and the major part of it's vocabulary from Sanskrit/Prakrit.

I shared my apartment with an Italian roommate for a while - Italian has a charming sound and is spoken with a peculiar accent, the consonants are quite similar to telugu and all words do end with vowels in Italian just like Telugu but they don't have hard retroflexes such as:
Da Ta Na
However, I am offended when people call Telugu "Italian of the East". Do we really need to compare our language to a European language to lend it respectability? Telugu is by far one of the most sophisticated languages in the world in the volume, quality, richness of literature and sophistication of grammar. Now I don't know much about the history of Italian but why do we need to measure ourselves in comparison to some European language when we can stand proudly by ourselves?
I notice that many people do not observe simple facts in school such as: When you learned English, you had to memorize the spelling for each word. Do you have to do that with Telugu? No!! Why? our writing system is a lot more sophisticated than the Latin script.
Same goes for Grammar. Telugu grammar derives from Sanskrit Grammar - the sophistication of which is unrivalled in the world - Telugu is one of the most regular (computer science term - look up "Regular Languages") languages in the world - probably only second to Sanskrit!!
So enough of the "Italian of the East"! American and European students of language know Sanskrit as a sophisticated Classical language - so I tell people "Telugu is the Sanskrit of the South"!!
