(a + b)(a - b) = b(a - b)
(a + b)(a - b)/(a - b) = b
in the second step (a-b)/(a-b) becomes 0/0 which is not defined. Thats were it fails.

aa = ab
aa - bb = ab - bb
(a + b)(a - b) = b(a - b)
a + b = b
a + a = a
2a = a
2 = 1
