Posted by: Mr. Frank Abagnale Jr. At: 7, May 2004 11:03:10 AM IST Hey Raj,
How u been man ? I was away for a while ..busy sem.So how are things with u ? You shd be graduating this year rite ? Newayz am gonna be arnd for a while ..if u folks are interested too , we shall rope in more puzzles , we can venture in other areas too ,apart frm number theory.
Hey susruth ..saw ur solution for the raj problem , yes wat u said is true but as raj pointed out , I think the heart of the problem lies in proving it for +ve integers. I havent got the solution yet .
Coming back , I posted a puzzle long back ..I think Raj said it wasnt clear .. so I am here posting it again.
Here's the problem :-)
Prove that if the difference between consecutive integers is a perfect square, then the difference can be written as the square of the sum of the squares of two other consecutive integers.
The first set of numbers to follow this are 7,8
(8)^3 - (7)^3 = 169 = (13)^2 = ( 4 + 9 )^2
4 is a perfect square and so is 9.
Cheerz! l8er
