very interesting indeed. "" It referred to the fact that a Defence or Indian Foreign Service official cannot even marry a foreign national without permission, or must quit his post. How could a person of foreign origin be handed over the nuclear button in such circumstances, Ms Swaraj's petition demanded to know. I woould like to clarify why then they had allowed Rajiv Gandhi as prime minister when he has a foreign born spouse and how we had earlier had our president who had a foreign born wife.

The matter of who becomes PM is to be decided by the elected MPs anyway. Please read the article from Midday which explains the situation :Seven years ago, Sonia Gandhi became Congress president. Soon after, she was elected leader of the Opposition. As Sharad Pawar has pointed out, this was a position recognised by the Constitution, and therefore she was deemed legitimate by the Lok Sabha and by the Constitution of India. The BJP’s opposition to her was made vocal then but did not have the hysterical quality that it does now. The prime minister, as we know, is merely the leader of the largest party in the house and is not meant to have any special attributes above those of the normal Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha member — or indeedthose above the leader of the Opposition. The BJP argument of foreign origins is wholly emotional and therefore bogus. It is even comical for being led by the pious Sushmaji, the discredited Govindacharya and the unstable Uma Bharati. Sushma Swaraj was thrashed by Sonia Gandhi in Bellary in the last Lok Sabha election. On what basis does Sushma Swaraj claim legitimacy in the eyes of the voter? As far as Uma Bharati goes, it is not possible given her record to take her seriously. Brahmacharya may be good for those who renounce the world. However, those who suffer sainthood’s physical demands but cling on to earthly power (Mr Modi may also be included here) are forever teetering on the brink of instability. Are these the sort of people who should be kept in mind when the leader of the Congress decides whether to do her duty or not? She derives her legitimacy from the people who voted her party into power and from the 320 Lok Sabha MPs who want to see her as prime minister. To hold up the business of government because Sushmaji threatens to only eat channa (which she should be doing in any case, given her ample frame) is dramatic, but ridiculous. Having said that, should Sonia Gandhi stick to her decision to not become prime minister, the BJP will come under the hammer from the public. The person who relinquishes power after having secured it is, in the Indian tradition, a saint. Mahatma Gandhi is a saint because he had power but chose not to exercise it himself. The BJP’s silence while Sushma Swaraj and Uma Bharati picked up a missile that might blow up in the party’s face will cost it dearly.

Anyway now it is clear Sonia Stepped down now. When Congress wins doesn't it mean that its leader also wins. When in other countries we call this racism. In India we call it Swabhiman! or whatever. Now it may open new kind of discussions elsewhere, like Indian born people getting banned from becoming Mayors London/Dunedin(and similar Top jobs).

BJP could have boycot the elections when Sonia contested; That time they may be sure of winning all the seats in Loksabha.

Someone sent me this info ..they may be true facts or just rumors.. KNOW ABOUT PROPSECTIVE PM :This is some information on prospective PM of India ,Sonia Gandhi that every Indian and at least every India lover must know. 1. Sonia Gandhi is ONLY a high school graduate. It is not even sure if she is Matric pass or fail. Cambridge University has confirmed that they have no Sonia Maino on their alumni list. 2.Her sister, Nadia Mario, who had never visited India before rushed to New Delhi, after Vajpayee govt.fell, to be by her side amidst reports that she might soon become India's Prime Minister. 3.Should Sonia Gandhi become Prime Minister, her relatives in Italy would be fully entitled to round-the-clock protection by the Black Cat commandos at the Indian taxpayer's expense. 4.She worked as an house maid in UK while taking classes to learn English in some no name school. She was from a poor family in Italy but now has almost as much money as Bill Gates (guess whose money is it). 5.During the 1971 war, while all Indians stood ready to fight for the Indian cause Sonia Maino and her husband Rajiv Gandhi went on vacation in Italy. 6. In 1977, when Indira Gandhi and Congress lost elections, Sonia Gandhi with her children and husband in tow took refuge of Italian embassy in New Delhi. Only after Indira Gandhi, Sanjay and his Indian wife Maneka convinced her that they came back. 7. Sonia married Rajiv in 1968 and was eligible to become Indian citizen 5 years later yet she did NOT become Indian citizen till 1984 I.e. 16 years after her marriage) This late bloom of Sonia's love for India also was out of political consideration. In 1984, Rajiv, was heir apparent and most likely next Prime Minister. It would be awkward for a PM to have a foreigner wife. Voila, Sonia became an Indian Overnight. 8. She has not given a single interview or offered any ideas on a single issue facing India now. Her only qualification is that she married a Gandhi. No newspaper has taken up the issue; no political party is opposing this, people are falling in line as if this is nothing unusual. 9. Sonia became an Indian citizen in 1984 but did not surrender her Italian citizenship. She continues to be simultaneously a citizen of India and Italy as Italian law does not require her to surrender her Italian citizenship or passport. Simply put, Sonia is a dual citizen of India and Italy now dreaming of becoming the next Prime Minister of India (she can also legally become the prime minister of Italy!).
