The terms 'heat & temperature' can be further defined explicitly according to thermodynamics. Heat - energy in transit Temperature - measure of the extent of internal enegy. To the best of my knowledge, such microlevel definitions do not exist in Telugu. By the by, 'somewhat interchangeable' is applicable to the Telugu terms & not to the English terms. ika, meeru aDugutunna 'yaksha' praSnalaku javaabu ivvaDaM kashTamE kaaka, adi abhilashaNeeyaM kooDaa kaadu anipistOmdi naaku. vaaTini yathaatathaMgaa vaaDitEnE chaduvuraanivaaLLaku kooDaa arthaM avutuMdi! oka saari mana 'kyaaTariMgu' vaaLLa bhaashanu, migataa konni vRuttulavaaLLa 'iMgleeshunu' gamaniMchi kooDaa meeru inni vishayaalu aDugutunnaaraMTE mimmalni mechchukOka tappadu.

Heat is the quantum of energy where as temp is the degree of hotness ( How much hot/). Hence , these two can not be interchanged if I am not mistaken.

naaku telisinavi : ushNamu/ vEDi - heat, temperature (somewhat interchangeable) ukka - sultriness tEma - humidity dignity - huMdaa, raajasaM prestige - pratishTha pride - garvaM (okkokka saMdarbhaMlo 'pogaru', 'ahaMkaaraM' kooDaa log - duMga timber - kalapa I do not think there are separate words in Telugu to differentiate such 'groups' & 'crowds'. Still, respectable terms are 'gumpu' & 'samoohaM'. Somewhat derogatory term is 'maMda' - used for harmless animals as well as 'amaayika (innocent)' human beings (sometimes used for gullible voters & abhimaana sangha members (not all). ( I do not have dictionary at the moment. Otherwise I could have attempted some more.) Satya Rama Prasad
