As far as I know Atlanta is the best city in the whole of continental US. All other cities suck big time (especially Lima tops the list :), Seattle, Cincinnati, Spokane etc etc) We always get nice goods and never have to care about trifle things like expiration dates etc, because all the goods are damn fresh including the ones available in crappy places like Walmart and Dollar shop. So, I encourage all the people in here who commented on the quality of goods available in their places, to move down to Atlanta. In this way you can experience better quality of life and goods too. P.S: Before moving down, please call me at (678)-707-3197 so that I can ask you people to bring in some home made curries for me and my mamoo. We already requested Mrs. Saritha to do the same but she ignored us badly. See to it that you all move down to our apartment complex only so that I can pile up some quick bucks in the form of referral fee =)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) We are already fed up eating out everyday. Today we ate Schlotzsky's Veggie pizza and it was damn tasty. Think you people don't get these in your places; even if you get, it would be full of roaches (going by your postings hehehehe). So once again I humbly request all you people to come down to Atlanta. I think Virgo Gal has to lead from the front in this "Move to Atlanta" movement. Adios Janaki gaadu. hehehehe.

Milk is good in general for one week after its sell by date. So is bread. However organic milk is supposed to be consumed by the date labelled.

Maa seattle Indian stores lo aithe sweets ki booju patti kanipnchevi inkaa sale lo. Koddi rojulaithe sweets vatanthata ave nadicchoesthayemo shopping carts loki ani bhayamesedi :)) Ikkada desi population east or bayarea vaipu unnantha ekkuva kaadu kabatti ala untayemo anukunedanni. Feels way better to know tht desi stores world-wide share the same philosophy. Sunakamu kanakapu simhasanamu laga :)) I found so many products with expired dates...specially things like horlicks/bournvita & ofcourse biscuits. It is always good to check the dates before we buy. Health department vallu regularga check chesinaa kooda these ppl manage to hold on to such stocks. Sad !!

--But r there no rules to check marking of expiry dates on all commodities exported from India?-- Sastriji, we can check the markings its only that they would be expired and people still buy them either out of ignorance or out of necessity! I wanted to know the governing laws before writing any such letter to the media. In US, every authentic product sold is supposedly adhere to the law and when it comes to food it is more so! My question is how are our desi vendors able to get away with that, especially when the product being sold is already expired right in the front shelves(pickles, biscuits etc)!! on the lighter front... --Expired Indian commodity in US : Love and affection -- hehe, I guess they(we) just find a new target! *got son papdi? the one that hasnt expired!*

This Was Long Time Ago In Raleigh, NC. I Saw Expired Date On Dosa Mix for price $.99 And Asked About The Same With The Shop Owner. He Says That Is All They Have And Nothing Really Happens With The Expiry Date And Many People Buy Without A Problem. After Some Conversation I Threatened Him To Complain It To BBB. He Goes Inside And Brings Another Product Which Has Future Expired Dosa Mix With A Price Tag of $1.99. They Just Try To Get Rid Of Expired Products With Reduced Prices Instead Of Throwing Them Out. Just Be Careful.

I am sorry to deviate the topic with my unsolved problem But r there no rules to check marking of expiry dates on all commodities exported from India? In India I too did not find expiry dates on commodities like coffee powder, oils, biscuits etc., where only the date of manufacture or packed is printed. In some cases, I remember that a caution was there that the product should be used within so much period from the date of manufacture or some thing of that sort. hmm. This should be thought of atleast now. I think it is better to post a letter to the Editor column in the daily paper. What do you say?

Glad to see some responses and sorry to see none on the real topic. I was targeting at expired Indian commodities that are sold in US and the FDA and its counterpart's governing laws. However, any discussion on the products' expiration in general are welcome. Sastriji, I am not sure how to check the expiry in India if the strip had been already stripped, but in US over-the-counter medicine is never sold in loose and without proper sealing except the prescription medicine which is filled by the pharmacist. So either you have to rely on the medical shop or if you want to be on the safe side, buy the 10 tablet strip and use 2 :) and I am serious! *munches cracked krack-jack biskuts*
