General Forum: Current 'Affairs' | DID INDIA REALLY SUFFER UNDER THE BRITISH RULE.? | |
| My answer is both Yes and No as the debate is historical and big.
Posted by: Mr. Vachaspathi V At: 26, Jul 2005 4:13:42 PM IST I cannot agree that there was no country by name 'India' prior to the advent of the British.
'Jamboo dweepE, Bharata varshE, Bharata KhaMDE,.. madhya dESe ..' 'jamboo dweepE, Bharata varshE, Bharata KhaMDE,... madhya dESE ..' thus goes the saMpkalpa in a saMdhyaavaMdanaM in any part of India. This has been happening in this country for so many generations.
Again, somebody may raise the question - 'Why this was not made known to the common man?'. That is a different issue. Still there are people in this country who believe that Indira Gandhi's family members are direct descendents of Mahatma Gandhi (their main concern is their daily bread) and there are leaders who want such ignorance to be continued.

Posted by: SATYA RAMA PRASAD KALLURI At: 25, Jul 2005 5:44:33 PM IST Hi Everybody....
I am new to this site. I have gone through a couple of topics in the site, but the name of this topic did really touch me.
Anyway.... I have read of all the messages under this topic. I also would like to share my views. Mind you, this is my personal opinion only.
I agree to the fact that India was ruined by British Rule. Also to the fact that many Hindus were converted into Islam at the time of Moughuls.
The question is what did we lose ????
what did we suffer from or still suffering from ?
As per the messages posted by a few of our friends, we lost huge amount of Gold and Natural Resources... True Indeed...!!!!
But as for me....I guess India lost the ability to learn and rectify herself from her mistakes. Here I would like to mention about the message, by one our friends, which said that India was never a big Country... this is very much true. We lost ourselves to Mouguls or Britishers because of our lack of unity. Many Nations invaded India and ruined India. All this happened becasue of lack of unity. It is not wise on our part to blame either Britishers or Moughals for their deeds. Instead we should blame ourselves for lack of unity and love for the nation.
The real thing that we lost to Britishers is our "Unity". Today we have 25 states. Still people are fighting for separate States, caste, creed and religion.
there is an adage in Telugu
"Mana bangaram manchi ga leeka pothe, kamsaalini adigi laabham leedu"
So, it is not necessary to think about whether we suffered under britishers or Moughuls...what matters is that what have to learnt from those Sufferings ? Did we rectify ourselves from our past mistakes ? Are we heading towards the path of prosperity or poverty....
If I study the state of India, I guess we are heading towards the path of destruction. The gap between the people is widening day by day due various reasons like Language, caste, religion and regions etc....
We still are in the same state as we were centuries ago...the only difference is that once India was with many Kingdoms now with many STATES.

However, conversion to Christianity was by polished & civilised methods - A sugar-coated pill
