We need a law to protect themselves of girls who are married to unstable or weavering mind people. Girls should be given property rights upon marriage.

The bill could make women against women within the family. Some women organisations are opposing that bill.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a bill to protect women from violence in their homes. The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Bill 2005 was supported across party lines and passed by a voice vote. But, during the debate, there were apprehensions on implementation of the comprehensive law aimed at checking all forms of exploitation of women — physical, sexual, emotional or economic. It covered actual abuse and threat of abuse. Checking harassment over dowry was part of the bill meant to provide relief to women harassed by their family members, in-laws or other relatives. Not just wives, it gave legal protection to women — including sisters and mothers — living in the same household as the “abuser”. It also offered an exploited woman the right to stay in her matrimonial or “shared” home, a provision, which some MPs said was not practical. A BSP MP said more than laws, there was a need to revive values and humanity to protect women. “Do we need a law for our family life?” he asked. Please give your comment on this topic.
