RRji, (Your confusion part is confusing me coz of ur refusal to link all the links in the chain..we were talking about sacrifices and vedas and they just did it 4 Amitaab!) all view points are WELCOME.insiders and outsiders. There are really funny things written about food in Vedas and manu's neeti suutraas. for ex: --He who eats meat, when he honours the gods and manes, commits no sin, whether he has bought it, or himself has killed (the animal), or has received it as a present from others. --But a man who, being duly engaged (to officiate or to dine at a sacred rite), refuses to eat meat, becomes after death an animal during twenty-one existences. --. On offering the honey-mixture (to a guest), at a sacrifice and at the rites in honour of the manes, but on these occasions only, may an animal be slain; that (rule) Manu proclaimed. --A twice-born man who, knowing the true meaning of the Veda, slays an animal for these(?) purposes, causes both himself and the animal to enter a most blessed state. have fun.

An outsider look make a sensible look inside.

SK, Thanks for correcting..Itis Yajurveda.and not Rigveds. In Yajurveda Khanda III,Prapathaka 5,there are Mantras of the Hotr in the animal sacrifice. I dont want tohear from u that Vedas prohibited animal sacrifice!

RRji, Reallly who cares whether our ancient literature,be it Vedas, were written or divine gift to mankind.? probably those who want to "worship" those scripts, which is ,for me,absurd. They are there and let mannkind read and get whatever good is in them and make best use of dat good. Dear RRji, if one is not reay to take an outsider view of all dat happened in the past, one can not abjctively interprete them, and get swayed by that juglary of words. I am not criticising the verbatism of the composers of those slokaas but plainly stating that ,that is of no use tous. Rig Veda entirely contains mantraas and slokas on how to perform sacrifices and appease gods.*Nospecific quotes .*U can read about rigveda from available sources.but what I said about it is not false. we all know animal sacrifice is punishable offense now in India. and PETA ..people for ethical treatment of animals would follow us if we want to appease this inet goddess bysacrificing a Buffalo or a bull. BTW,how sad it is that when recently AMITAB BACHHAN was in hospital, his fans in Assam sacrificied a Buffalo at Kaamaakkitemple ?

Posted by: Mr. Siri Siri At: 3, Mar 2006 2:01:30 PM IST That is the "basic knowledge". because never selfishness leads to happiness. Happiness/misery are the temporary feelings of man.

Posted by: Mrs. shaloo At: 3, Mar 2006 2:31:43 PM IST
Shalloji..what u said is correct, man has become more and more selfish.dat is true. Had the science and new political system been not there,I guess, the mankind would have neen in much more worse scenario now. so despite the good government and great science tohis aid,man is still a selfish man and his happiness probablyhas not increased.that is a thing to think about philosophically. How man can become more happy?what is happinss?what is the purpose of living if one cant behappy, with all inventions at his disposal.:))

My Dear RRji, Though ancient literature and our history and Budhism and jainism and varna vyavasta do look separate to some people, the fact is that they are NOT. Kindly let me explain: first of all History encompasses all of them..their origin to their end/pressent state. if u agree to that,we need to study history also to know all of them. Next: Vedas and vedangas and upanishads moulded the thought process of our ancestors..how a king should behave towrds his people(Politics)how how a brahmin should perforam yajnaas acording to scriptures ,chanting right mantras(Social and political life of people who are part of History), next:Budhism and jainism or whaterver ism has its own history and they again affected the Social/philsophical outlook of people . So these are not separate entities when u take an Overall look at the history ,from an outside ring. I already mentiond that we need to study history tolearn lessons from it and apply good things to future. Most parts of them are verbal juglary ,but there is good here and there and to separate the chaff and make use of the good we need to study the whole hostory.and history includes everything dat happened int he past upto the present. U have raised the right point about birth. The fact is that ancient people believed/ore correctly were made to believe that Varnas originated from ,ok,PURUSHA.,some jkind of higher being, thus imposing its validity on people, albeit knowingly. Vedanta doent mean y any one as just "End of Veda".It meand they were written after the end of veda and contain interpretations of Veda. Aranyakas, probably meant to be written in Forests?not sure of it. I dont know what /why u have written that last para.It doessnt suppost any of ur arguements if there is one.

And true knowledge lies in this "basic morals".

Posted by: Mrs. shaloo At: 3, Mar 2006 1:39:44 PM IST
I dont think so. As man started gaining "knowledge"(and the number increased now)his "selfishness" also increased accordingly. Because the" basic morals "have lost its importance while gaining more and more knowldege.

Well,"knowledge"is knowledge! But everything in books is not knowledge. and there are woolfs around too, ofcorse not many now, compared to a separate"varna"in yesterdays.
