Sparrow,
I agree, I already said Kalam could have done much more. So on the negative side, he hasnt done much.
But on the positive side,
He has been a researcher and India badly needs some direction in R&D. He can be a very good guide
He knows a lot about Indian Defense Capabilities and as the Head of the Armed Forces, he can strategize the security
He never associated himself with any political parties and he is very much apolitical.
As an educated person himself he has the potential to guide the Govt on lots of issues. ( I agree he hasnt displayed those capabilities so far - but if he can be used properly, he is an asset)
In the absence of Kalam, the candidates int he fray would be Shekawat ( Thank God, not Sherawat), AB Baby and Somnath Chatterjee. Shekawat can not win as he is from the BJP and the rest proved themselves to be big jokers.
