| My conviction:
Image or no image, it is the faith that works ultimately. Image worship is for the people who believe that God has form. There are some sects who believe that God has no form. They too worship God, without any image. If we are convinced that God is omnipresent then He is in form as well as in formless. With image, it is easy to concentrate the mind on God.
But the topic here is whether we can reach God with the image worship?
We have the proofs/beliefs that many saints in the past have realised God folliwng the Bhakti path. Bhakti is one of the many paths to realise God. Image worship comes under this path. Such God realised saints have preached to us that to attain God one should have in the first place purity of mind. Unleass the mind is pure nothing can be achieved spiritually. They have said that Bhakti path is the easiest way to achieve purity of mind. Once it is achieved then the distance between man and God will be lessened. In that state he will no longer require any image to worship God.
Anyway, one cannot believe these things just like that. If you want to know the truth you have to go deep. One has to read scriptures or books written by saints. Then only faith will come.
