Excellent film now in telugu film industry
The Story
In Hyderabad, a poor woman dies at a hospital, after giving birth to a child. The child’s only property is the photo of his mother’s dead body. Brought up in an orphanage, the boy names himself as Mass (Nagarjuna). On the advice of the neighborhood and his friend (Sunil), he decides to marry. For which he is busy at the bus stop looking for a suitable girl. On the complaint of one Anjali (Jyothika), the police mistake Mass for a roadside Romeo and keep him in a lock-up. Anjali says “sorry” to Mass and the love story starts. They are about to marry, when Anjali’s brother Seshu (Rahul Dev) arrives from Vizag and takes away the bride (when Mass is away to fetch his mother’s photo to the temple – the venue of marriage). When Sunil tries to stop Seshu, the latter fatally shoots the former, who breathes his last at the lap of his friend Mass.
Mass arrives in Vizag. His mission is to avenge his friend’s murder. For which he decides to uproot the local mafia of Satya (Raghuvaran) and his son Seshu; and to get back Anjali. His exploits form the climax.
Performance
Nagarjuna is at his best in this movie. He looks extraordinarily handsome as Mass. It is like breaking his own record in being handsome. His dances and fights are superb and the best in his career, coming as a silent surprise to the fans and audiences. All through the movie, you don’t find any “over action” in Nag’s characterization, but everything in order.
Jyothika played the prime heroine well. She is glamorous, but her figure is badly spoiled. Her dance sequences are average.
Charmi plays the second fiddle. Her role is limited to teasing the hero (like the one in Sri Anjaneyam) and dream songs with him, besides being a good listener of his flashback.
Raghuvaran’s acting is nice. But his character is not brought out fully. In the beginning, he is projected as a dreaded villain, but all the villainy is done by Rahul Dev (as his son). Raghuvaran’s little footage would definitely disappoint the audience.
Rahul Dev played the main opponent of the hero. Naturally, he displayed his physic and fights, as expected by the audience.
Sunil appears as a bosom friend of Nag. He has very good footage and important role in this movie.
Venu Madhav comes in a separate comedy track. He pretends to be a cancer patient and robs the sympathy of Narsing Yadav (same name in the movie), who would promptly kill the liars. Their comedy is interesting and evokes good laughter.
Lawrence Raghava (choreographer and director) appears in title song.
Rajesh did the comedy role of an auto driver, who later becomes Mass friend.
All others performed well in their specified roles.
Technical Details
Story, Screenplay and Direction by Lawrence Raghava is surely trendy and interesting. He could deal the screenplay in an excellent manner till the intermission, but for about 40 minutes in the second half, the mood is disturbed in the theatre due to songs and flashback scenes. However, he well succeeded in sustaining the curiosity and tension among the audience. Lawrence is going to have a bright career as a director.
Songs are mass. They are nice watching on the screen than heard on the stereo. Music by Devi Sri Prasad is nice, though it is similar to the tunes of “Shankar Dada”. The background score is good.
Cinematography by Shyam K Naidu is good.
Stunts department led by Vijay is excellent. There is variety and style in taking the stunts. The chase scene involving Nag (on Motorbike) and Rahul Dev (in a fleet of vehicles) is highlight of the department.
Dialogues by Paruchuri brothers are apt for a mass movie. They could instill freshness here, much to the relief of the audience.
However, there are certain clashes in dealing the subject. Nag kills two dreaded henchmen of the main villain. That is widely published in the newspapers. But you don’t have any police on the scene. Similarly, the last climax fight takes place in the full view of hundreds of people. (Like watching cocks’ fight or a bullfight). Again, there is no intervention of the police. Of course, it is not a problem for the Mass.
Costumes department is simply superb.
Another plus point is there is no vulgarity in the movie.
You have sufficient comedy in the main story and side track as well.
The director succeeded in touching the hearts of the audience in one particular scene – When Nag visits his orphanage along with Jyothika.
over all the response of the film is terrific every where. And a nice action, love, sentiment with all elements which r requiered by any audiene every where.
