General Forum: Religion | What is Religion.... Case Study - Hinduism | |
| U r right Mr vinayL...Hinduism is strictly not a religion but a code of life based on the practice of "dharma". Hinduism has no founder and so any one who practices Dharma can call himself a "hindu".
Now coming to the meaning of "religion".....religion means "to bind" and it unites people and "dharma" means "to hold" to hold to a set of rules or any thing which leads from ignorance to "truth".
Hinduism encourages people to look in to themselves for "truth"as the goal of life rather than to acquire wealth and power. True as said by westerners or as ridiculed by some hindus worship "GOD" in many forms but all these Gods have their basic origin from the "trinity".....the creator, the maintainer and the destroyer and this in turn becoz most people want a form to concentrate and worship and so they worship one "GOD " who or which is beyond time, space , form and ultimate truth of life .
This is the greatness of hiduism........ila rasukuntu velthe we can write tons and tons of articles on Hinduism...... Hope i haven't bored or confused u people...if so please excuse me.

Interesting Topic , and more interesting is " I would like to see how Hinduism is viewed as a religion from people who dont belong to that religion."
As i'm in US i think i can share some views on this Topic , the very frequent question that people ask me about Hinduism is why you have so many Gods??? well the answer is simple " because there are lots of Good people in Hindu religion" that's why there are so many Gods....(If anyone says my answer is wrong there are welcome to give there answer for the question) .
and coming to society and religion , i think the way we look at religion is always dependent on the society 'coz Religion at HYD is far more different than religion at US , a Hindu will be a Hindu in both HYD and US but the way he looks or the others look at his religion is very very different in both places .
I regard Hindusim as the best( I'm not saying this , i read this in some books) as a believer in "Karma" i feel the best birth for anyone on earth is as of a Hindu .
I think i'm done my contribution ... i welcome comments from people as this is my first posting

Nice to see you here. Do post your opinions here. I hope you saw the name of the topic properly.... so I expect your mesgs to give first importance to religion and secondarily to a particular case - Hinduism.
To people who are not born in Hindu families:
I would like to see how Hinduism is viewed as a religion from people who dont belong to that religion.
Have a great time!
