Posted by: Mr. M Kumar N At: 22, Jan 2005 9:15:32 PM IST While Marxists and other anti-Hindu intellectuals calling themselves Secularists never miss an opportunity to denounce it, the fact of the matter is that the Indian civilization survived nearly a thousand year onslaught of Islam. Several other ancient civilizations – like those of Iran (Zorastrian), the Byzantine Empire (Christian) and Central Asia (Buddhist) broke down under the same force over a much shortest period. This shows that they must have lacked a social order capable of protecting their societies.
The so called ‘egalitarian’ Buddhist society lacked the social organization which enabled the Hindu society to survive. It was the same story in Egypt, Syria, and Turkey which were part of the Christian Byzamtine Empire. They lacked the strength and resilience of the Hindu society and succumbed to the Islamic invasion.

Posted by: Mr. HAYAGREEVA MURTY Rachuri At: 22, Jan 2005 3:22:41 PM IST The earliest reference to the four classes is in the Purusa Sukta of the Rig Veda, where they are described as having sprung from the body of the creative spirit, from his head, arms, thighs, and feet. This indicates that just as in a human body, the different organs perform different functions so also in human society different people must perform different functions, according to their predominant traits or temperament.
some body said that thereis nocaste system approved in the vedas. They can read the above inthe same link given by Ms.Mags

Whats in a caste?
when we r born , we donno what caste means? we r pure...we r God's children..
As we get to know this world, we r introduced with many new words (to pollute the mind of God's child) like caste, religion, enemies, untouchables, to name a few...
well, it is also true that every coin has two sides...
we r living only on the one side and as we never tried to find out what is there on the other side, we can b called as ignorants..
caste taught us many good things but we cultivated many many bad things...
we always took everything for our benefit but we forgot to see it in the perspective of a common man...
we r proud tht we r from the family of a brahmin and sorry many a times, that we r from an outcasted community...
the truth is (as far i am concerned) we created caste so tht we don create any chaos in learning and when we learn, we do it till we acquire skill....it is not tht easy to become a goldsmith, to play with fire and bring out marvellous ornaments from a small lump of gold...nor is it tht easy to b a blacksmith to handle the melted iron very artfully...the greatest sacrifice is of the outcasted people...they left the community to serve them...ti make them feel comfortable..cleaned the city and they themselves lived in the outskirts...
and the easiest of all...the brahmins...learn Sanskrit and then Vedas...feel proud abt it and never share ur knowledge to others but when they hear something against themselves their blood burns as if a valcano is abt to burst....a ture brahmin is one who has his heart controlled by mind and who can concentrate so well on God tht he needn't answer anyone abt his caste but can spread the true meaning of God....
so how many of u brahmins who took part in this discussion behave so? probably a little..
in the modern world, caste is just something on the certificate...u r from FC/OC, BC, SC, ST...
people r using it just for money..
the true caste never asks u to do so...
it always wanted harmony among human beings..their happiness and the way they set themselves to see God..
the very fact tht most of us deny is "Sudra is the one who can see the God first amongst all of us" ..he is treating mankind....he expects only money for his work in return and nothing else...he is humiliated ..and when he sleeps under the clear sky with all the five elements of life guarding him and God beside him soothing and caressing his heart and body all the night so tht he can set out for his work fresh the next day..
we do offer many things to God but always forget tht He lies within our "fist sized" heart to prvode us the peace within us..
and lastly, for those who haven't seen God...there is a simple way...serve the mankind for few moments whole-heartedly and u can see the peace tht flowing alover ur soul..

i have no intentions to hurt any...but if any got hurt..my true n heartfelt apologies to them.
