I am bending my head in front of Ms.Prasanthi – she is really doing good. She is been doing since her Msc it seems. Greatly appreciate that. I am sorry to give such a feeling that I want to do it my own. I apologize for that. I can’t do this by my own – I can’t - period – What I am trying to say is taking people (public) help (Not who are willing to participate with passion) People who are trying to help by money or time etc.. is so precious. We can’t ask them again and again. That help should produce fruits – And also we should be able to re-use it – That success brings more people and help. The physiological reason behind is – Helping others usually is a kind of feeling, (not who has passion) Once it happened – it takes time to get that feeling again. I am not trying to convince you. It is my feeling. See, if you ask some one – Can you help a girl who is going to die because of disease OR - We are trying to help youth ( bulk of people) that gives carrier path – See how much u can collect by doing these two different ways? How best you can help society? If you (any one ) still think that I am wrong – please tell me – If Ms. Prasanti come up with a plan that she wants to train or teaches people – I can surely help. 2)Your other question - Group or (team work) – Every one can create a Yahoo mail id – initially ( soon we can have a web site / register a charity organization ) Join our names in yahoo messenger. We can discuss there as a group at one particular time. my maild id : revive_india@yahoo.com 3) Other question - how to start the work? Yes bringing the youth is a very good idea. Before that you have to have a plan – what you are going to do with them? You need to shape them little bit. They are double edge blades :) So you need a GOOD plan – My best idea is concentrate on unemployment – Which is the best way to do and Get immediate response – If you say I am teaching ‘how to repair computer’ classes for free , don’t you get a response ? If you say become an electrician or motor mechanic, don’t you get a response? Please comment & come up with more ideas - thanks

Hello all, I have gone thru some of the postings and very much impressed by the work of Ms.Prasanthi and also by Mr.Indian Proud.. well, most of the things are discussed by Ms.Prasanthi.So think on it Mr.RI Abt team work: Indians are very dedicated and want to do everything on their own. We r very selfish to do all the work by ourselves without the help of others. and if someone helps us, we feel tht they r takin our work and we feel sad for tht..and sometimes there is also a chance tht we feel tht the other person is underestimatin us.. so now we shud filter these negative qualities (ego) and come up with positive qualities (like dedication and whole hearted willingness to work). now, whoever wan to join this movement (i may call it movement)...plz forget tht u r from a family of some background..just remember u r an Indian and u r helpin ur fellow Indian.. and exchange views and work with each other.. now comin in to how to start the work? see, the first and foremost thing is gettin into people who need us.i am using gettin into b'coz many think tht we r intrudin their personal matter and feels offended... a better idea can be start with our own village.. b'coz in telugu there is a proverb "inta gelichi raccha gelavali" ani. so i think each one of shud make some soldiers in one's village and then come towards the other problems prevailin nearby... well, this is upto the ppl who r working.. next, the power of students is always subdued, mainly b'coz of the reason of parents..Parents want tht the students to mainly concentrate on their studies and r ready to spend money on them. now, we shud concentrate on engineerin students, degree students, medicos .... these ppl have a lot of time and we know tht these r habituated to study for exams only b4 one week or so..so they have plenty of time to spare for us.. now this not only increase their communication skills and help them in better job prospects but also improve their personality as a whole. i thought on this subject a lot. these can spare their time atleast one day a week... and the persons who r workin can also spare their time one day a week, for those who r workin in software companies.. when i was at Hyd, students were inclined to join call center jobs for money. so they can do the same to join this movement. In places like IITs, the fourth yearites especially are lookin for social work.. i donno whether am goin in a right direction or not.. i felt to post these views of mine.. plz do share ur views so tht i can still stir up my ideas to come up with somethin solid to give a shape to this revolution. Mr.RI, i have gone thru the site u suggested..it is very good to know the progress of it.. All my best wishes to all the soldiers of this movement. Voice.

Mr Madhu - try to do your duty - Which is, serve the mother land - help others within your abilities. Why ACB is doing duty now ?, because of opposite GOVT - Ananta Ramulu's has this much money & jewelry even before. Why can't the ACB catch him before ? , why he didn't do his duty? ( That is the reason why we are talking now) No one is doing their duty. Don't say since he didn't do - I don't want to do mine ? Please Mr. Madhu do your duty - That is help other with in your abilities (I am not talking 'money' is only the help ) Train others how to live, teach others how to success in life, moral values, ethics. I know you have all these things. Whom ever you teach That fellow will give chorus along with you. One day it will produce a big wave – believe me We know enough WHY - We need action now - We need how ? - How can I help , changes, improve ...

Mr IP - I have nothing to say - You said in a very good manner with example and comparison. I agree with you. Our system is like that – I understand you totally – You had a very good observation. There is big BUT – We have our duty to help motherland and people. ** -- Water the plant where it will nourish and produce fruits --** That’s what my plan is. Help who are eager to learn & earn, who wants a technical skills that gives a job in this current situation. Give them for FREE – That will ignite the lamp, I am hoping it will show paths to other people. I am serious about my plans. Prasanti : I greatly appreciate your commitment & helping nature. Looks like we are going parallel. My plan is it should produce fruits – Your plan is nourish the plant -

Just now I have seen this thread. I am a Resident Indian. We already have an idea and you (NRIs) can join us and collectively we can serve our motherland. I can show you the causes or the needy people (with the help of friends/newspapers), you can help the needy directly. Nothing but, just form groups within our vicinity (either school/college friends, colleagues, colony friends/ net friends etc.,). Give some money every month for a particular cause or for the needy. As time pass by and when the groups strengthen (consistently persists as a group), then we can think of big ideas. Actually our telugupeople.com is planning to have a TP foundation, serving as an umbrella organization for all the groups who wish to collaborate, coordinate and cooperate. The purpose is identifying the causes, generating funds and giving it to either NGOs who work on the causes or the needy persons directly. If anyone of you are interested, you can send a mail to helpdesk. The following is an idea =============================== Let all of us form a group. In my case, initially I wish to start with my M.Sc. group. This will be the locus. We will team up and our school friends and colleagues, net friends may also join later on if they wish so. Let us say 15 members of our class come forward and commit to be a part of the SWG (Social Work Group). We will say some amount (which will be given on own decision, the amount they can afford) should be given every month from our salary and be deposited into the account in the name of the group. Account will be maintained by the person who willingly take the responsibility. (This person must not be a fixed one. Each month or Each quarter must be allocated to one particular individual). Based on the reports and details, we spend the money either monthly or quarterly. We should spend the money on a cause which gained the consensus of each and every person in the group. No one in the group must be passive. Everyone must participate. Groups need not be of classmates. Likeminded individuals are needed to form a group. But working in a groupd and as a group is must for better results. Group in our colony, Group of our school or college friends, Group of colleagues, Group of net friends (this might be difficult) etc., If someone else who are not involved in any group willing to be part of someone else's group, they should not come into the main group because main group must be one like board of representatives. For example, the main group which I am talking about is my M.Sc. group. If my school friends show interest to join and be a part of our activities, then they will form my group. Group of Prasanthi. I will organize, maintain, keep in touch with different groups like school friends, hostel friends, colleagues and net friends. I will keep everyone informed of the activities, proposals, collection etc., Funds will be collected and deposited based on group. If a person is in more than one group, he/she need not give money in all groups. This way we can keep in touch with all our friends and we make more friends. After all, a friend's friend is a friend. A small amount of money from us as a person, would be a big one which can make difference in someone else's lives. I just remember the story in 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' narrated to me by one of my elderly friends(good old men). There was some problem in the sea and all the turtles( might be some other sea creature) shed to the shore like anything. One person picks up one turtle at a time and throw it into the sea as farther as he can. A passer by observed him and questioned him. See how many turtles shed to the shore. What would change if you pick few turtles and throw them into the sea. Your effort can make any difference when compared to the actual problem. The person replied to him like my effort makes difference to this, showing a turtle, and throwed it into the sea and go on doing his work. =================================== NOTE: Please see the thread in 'Help Line'. http://discussion.telugupeople.com/discussion/index.asp?board=-3&topicCode=9&tc1=5406&tc2=0&topic=A+11+yr+child+of+a+poor+family+in+Kottagudem+need+help

Here is a very good article about TEAM WORK. THE MAGIC OF TEAM WORK (One Indian = 10 Japanese, 10 Indians = One Japanese) Lack of teamwork and co-operation is one of the most serious problems affecting progress in all areas of India and wherever Indians work worldwide. The key problem in India is always implementation, not lack of policies. We have great policies and ideas about how to do things, but severely lacking teamwork. When the Japanese came to work in India to develop the Maruti Suzuki car, a joke went around that one Indian was equal to 10 Japanese: Indians were very smart, capable and dedicated individuals. But 10 Indians were equal to 1 Japanese: Indians lacked team spirit and co-operation. What makes matters even worse is our “crab” mentality – if someone is trying to climb higher and achieve more, the others just drag him down. The signal that the others send out is, “ I wouldn’t do it; I wouldn’t let you do it; and if by change you start succeeding, we will all gang up and make sure that you don’t get to do it.” The question is: Where does this attitude come from, and how do we recognize and handle it? Hierarchical System Part of the problem is our cultural background. We’ve had feudal and a hierarchical social system in which whoever is senior supposedly knows best. This was fine in earlier times when knowledge and wisdom were passed on orally; but in modern society, there is no way that one person can know everything. Today, you may find that a young computer-trained person has more answers for an accounting problem than a senior accountant has. Until we understand how best to leverage this diversity of experience, we will not be able to create and fully utilize the right kind of teams. Sam Pitroda: “ In my younger days in the US, I attended an executive seminar for Rockwell International, where about 25 senior company executives had congregated for a week for strategic discussion. In the evenings, we would break out into five different groups of five people each. In those group workshops, someone would delegate tasks, saying: “ You make coffee; you take notes; you are the chairman; and you clean the board”. The next day, there would be different duties for each group member. No one ever said, “ But I made coffee twice or I cleaned the board entire day”. I thought to myself, if this were happening in India, people would be saying, “ But I’m the senior secretary – why should I make the coffee and you be the chairman?” Hierarchy comes naturally to our minds. Group work requires a thorough understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of individuals irrespective of their hierarchy. Because of our background, we often don’t learn how to exercise and accept leadership- to lead and to follow – simultaneously. Some gravitate toward exercising leadership, and others gravitate toward accepting the lead of others. But in true teamwork, everyone needs to do both. Being a good team player implies respect for others, tolerance of different points of view and willingness to give. The ability to resolve conflicts without either egotism or sycophancy is a very important aspect of being a team player: You have to agree to disagree. I find that people in India somehow tend to focus on achieving total agreement, which is almost always impossible. So before work begins people want everyone to agree on everything instead they should say OK. This is what we agree on, so let’s start working on this. What we don’t agree on, we will resolve as we go along”. For things to move forward, it’s important to work on the agreed-upon aspects and not get bogged down in the areas of disagreement. Yet another snake that kills teamwork is people’s political agendas. You’ve got to be open, clear and honest to be a good team player. Most people though, have a hidden agenda – they say something but mean the exact opposite. I call it “split-level consciousness”. To say and mean the same thing is a very critical part of a good work ethic. Criticizing the individual or the idea? When Sam was working in C-DOT (400 employee size company), If someone had not been doing well, Sam used to tell the person directly to his face in a general meeting. The employees said that was insulting and they should be pulled aside individually to be told of the inefficiency. But in today's world, you cannot afford to do that every time. Besides, Sam figured that criticizing someone in a meeting was for the benefit of all present, and everyone could learn from that individual's mistakes. It was then that Sam learned how Indians do not differentiate between criticizing an idea and criticizing an individual. So in a group, if you tell someone that his idea is no good, he automatically takes it personally and assumes that you are criticizing him. No one can have a good idea everyday on every issue. If you disagree with my idea, that does not mean that you have found fault with me as a person. Thus, it is perfectly acceptable for anyone to criticize the boss - but this concept is not a part of the Indian System. So from time to time, it is important for an organization's Chief Executive to get a report on the psychological health of the firm. How do people in the team feel? Are they stable? Confident? Secure? Comfortable? These are the key elements of a team's success. For a boss to be comfortable accepting criticism from subordinates, he must feel good about himself. Self-esteem is a key prerequisite to such a system being successful. Mental Vs. Physical Workers Another serious problem facing India is the dichotomy and difference in respectability between physical and mental workers, which seriously affects team performance. Mr. Sam had a driver named Ram, who he thought was one of the best drivers in the world. He used to open the door for him whenever he entered or exited the car. Right in the first few days Sam told him " Ram bhai, you are not going to open the door for me. You can do that If I lose my hands". Ram almost started crying. He said, " Sir, what are you saying? This is my job!" Sam told him that I didn't want to treat him like a mere driver. He had to become a team player. Sam told him that whenever he was not driving, he should come into office and help out with office work - make copies, file papers, send faxes, answer phone call or simply read - rather than sit in the car and wait for me to show up. Diversifying tasks increases workers' self-esteem and motivation and makes them team players. Now, even If Sam calls him for work in the middle of the night, he is ready - because Sam respects him for what he does. Team Interactions unfortunately, when good teams do get created, they almost invariably fall apart. In our system today it is very difficult to build teams because nobody wants to be seen playing second fiddle. It is very hard in India to find good losers. Well, you win some and you lose some. There could be a 40-year-old CEO with a 55-year-old VP. It has nothing to do with age; capability and expertise are what counts. But you don't yet see these attitudes taking hold in India. Managers in the US corporate environment who work with Indians - and in fact, with Asians in general - need to recognize that these individuals have a tendency to feel that they are not getting recognition or are not being respected. It must be realized that these individuals have lower self-esteem to begin with and therefore have to be pampered and encouraged a little more because they need it. This makes them feel better and work better. No Substitute for Teamwork. Teamwork is key to corporate and national governance, and to get anything done. The fundamental Issues are respect for others, openness, honesty, communication, willingness to disagree, resolution of conflict, and recognition that the larger goal of the team as a whole rumps Individual or personal agendas. Don't be afraid of pressure. Remember that Pressure is what turns a lump of coal into a diamond.
