Posted by: DoBoy At: 23, Jun 2005 3:18:28 PM IST I dont know how many of you aree with my contntion that Hunderds of families earn their daily bread because of the huge expenditure incurred by the richer people on the marriage functions ..
How does the Money flow to the other sections fo the society if the Rich dont spend?
If a rich guy spends a couple of crores on his marriage .. he would buy new clothes and most of them would be traditional ( Not Peter England, Tommy or CK brands) and all the Silk Sarees bought would benefit the weavers .. The money (atleast a part of it)spent on the decorations and flowers would ultimately go to the middle and low class workers.
The money sent on crackers would partially go the women of Sivakasi
A Taxi Driver would earn more than what he earns per day
Cooks and Caterers earn their livelyhood
This list goes unending ...

Posted by: Mr. Vachaspathi V At: 23, Jun 2005 10:27:19 AM IST And By the way .. why is no one talking about the Gifts (Like Golden Jewellery) given by the family of the groom to the Bride? Doesnt it come under dowry?
Tilak garu, can U throw some light on this?

...
Here in these threads there is Dowry Abolitin Act, in original. Frankly, lawyers use the laws for their advantage and get the clues from the acts only to win the cases.
Shri Tilak said once, only demanding dowry is crime. On that day, I had a discussion with my staff and lawyer friends and referred some books. But as per the act, giving or taking or abeting dowry is a crime.
