Well Murthy garu, I think he said Puranas made a woman helpless - making her a Goddess by deifying her .. I too dont agree with that! English vadileyyandi saar, we all make mistakes, but when I try toread between the llines, I still haev a feeling that he is trying to Blame Indian system and drag Puranas into picture .. well I may be lilk confused here .. lets wait for him to clarify that... ... Puranas are historical ones. You all better remember this. Before Gupta Era there were no puranas. Taking clues from the legendary myths there were written during Guptas. Dragging puranas into picture is not at all an issue. It's relevence must be disussed. Questioning the existing the system, keeping in mind of the past, gives the correct picture. The hang-over of Puranas, Smritis still exist in Indian mind. ... Kiranji, I regrest your mistake! I never blamed the religion. I blamed the present mind of misusing the religion and religius dictums taking them as axioms and normative. No religious preached inequality, hatred, oppression and expoitation. But all these maladjustments exist. It's because historical occurrances of several 'selfish' designs and motives who lived just by preaching Puranas, keeping Sanskrit language in their tight fist. //How deification means shackles and denying equal opportunities?? Could you please explain little further. ..Deifications means fixation of normative behaviour. You attribute some values to the deified person. You will not except that person who stepped out of those attributed values. Manu Code even denied Education to women! Eventhough it gave a status to women...that's secondary status. Dening the ancestral property to women...saying 'Goddess need no property'...like statements. mUrtigArU... nAku pArAyaNam rAdu...tamarE cheppanDi!

She was married just 8 months ago. According to NAGAON SP Sri sharma an FIR was filed.and the man is absconding. But the village panchayath and local clergy citing the SHERIAT Declared that the woman shOuld leave her husband and marry his father. --INDIAN EXPRESS JULY 9 TH 2005........ ONE MORE... Hi Kiran, He says Puranas Deified the woman, made her a Goddess, thereby leading to Gender Inequality right? I just wanted him to substatiate on that .. and also if u follow the flow he says .. This is an issue not related to Fatwa alone but Gender Inequality and also says Puranas were reponsible for gener inequality .. that made me think whether he was trying to blame the inequality for Fatwa then Slam the Indian Culture and then finally go to the favorite bashing point - Puranas .. :)) and well please read "First of all Puranas have nothing to do with Gender oissues because Hindus dont follow puranas .. they follow VEDAS and they are totally different!" sentence of mine as "Puranas have nothing to do with Gender issues - for they are just epics but not the guidelines like Vedas" I was on a fone call when I typed the previous message :))

[Even though Quran gives fair treatment of womem, Puranas deified the woman] So you are blaming Puranas for Deoband's fatwa .. lolz :)) First of all Puranas have nothing to do with Gender oissues because Hindus dont follow puranas .. they follow VEDAS and they are totally different! And I repeat the question - Any Examples where Quran gives fair treatment and Puranas dont? Just Because Jayendra is a man, he can be harrassed by th Media eh? Is this what you call "GENDER EQUALITY?" hmmmmmmmmz
