General Forum: Current 'Affairs' | DID INDIA REALLY SUFFER UNDER THE BRITISH RULE.? | |
| I mean dam.
Posted by: DoBoy At: 25, Jul 2005 11:24:42 AM IST Damn it! Did they construct damns or dams?
Damns are our own contribution.
Another indirect help they did was to give us India as a single country (though they 'created' Pakistan).
Ours was never a single big country de facto. It was only in our hymns & other classics that it was mentioned as 56 countries - anga, vanga, kaliMga, kaaMbhOji etc.
The invidual kings were always fighting among themselves.
Again we are doing the same.

May be to some extent, but we also gained a bit more.Becoz, recently Our PM's statement's /speech at oxford thanking britain for ruling india, while receiving his doctorate had also has raised few eyebrows. Many believe corruption then was less than what is today. They did really good in terms of infrastructure, railways, damns, bridges, canals, telegraph also. Most of us are able to speak & write the main international language, compete and have defintely got jobs like medical transcription for our grasp on the subejct, depth , competitiveness. Our state, central legislaturs, are based on their model. Likewise, judiciary.
