| It is also WRONG to attribute varnavyavasta to "natural behavior' of people.
I already mantioned KRN ,our ex president and present PM.Given an opportunity everybody in this world can be as great as anybody else.
Depriving an opportunity based on "varna" or so called "natural behavior" is punishable crime now. After all dat is what is Democracy, the government by the people 4 the people

Iam not going to buy ur arguement that varnas were created by Brahma himself. It is nothing but callling Brahma to justify their actions. It is also WRONG to attribute varnavyavasta to "natural behavior' of people.
In, probably, RigVeda there is a sloka which exxplains how barhmin originated from Mouth of KALAPURUSHA and shudra from HIS feet etc.
If at all there is some usefulness of all this ancient literature, it is things like neetishastaras and karmayyoga and rajayoga etc in Bhagavadgeeta and things like that which are relevant at any time, past ,present and in future.
such things help our socity to rid it of evil effects of modernisation .. stress/strain/fights/degradation of moral fabric ,like u name it.
Posted by: Mr. Siri Siri At: 3, Mar 2006 1:19:38 PM IST It so happened that Sanskrit was "official :))" language at that and all
c-pascal,scripts were in sanskrit.
But more than to this language,it is the
"mental outlook/mentality" of ppl at the TOP to perpetually keep as many as possible away from the knowledge of scriptures, that should be looked at.Moreover they say lower varnas are prohibited by saastraas themselves from learning them..just to perpetuate their grip and protect their well payed/positioned positions in hirarchy of varna system.
If u read ancient history from a good source u'll know that none of mahabharata/ramayana/upanishad/vedas/vedangaas/**even bhagavadgeeta** were written in a short span.some span some generations !
So attributing divinity to everything in them and attributing sastraa tosome particular person also isnotcorrect.
let everybody read them and grasp what is good in them and reject what is bad(like varna vyavasta) in them.
U will be surprised toknow that women were held at highest respect during RigVeda period ,but later on their position got degraded with time and social evils like SATI and Balya vivaahaalu etc became prevalent.
And so many social leaders had to struggle to get our socity rid of all this shit.

Good interpretation.
Why Sirigaaru has said "juglary of verbatism"
I could understand.I think His intention is never to criticise our religious books.
Because
Vedaas,upanishads are written in Sanskrit.
Sanskrit is a language which we can write in any order. And while using the language most importance is given to saMdhulu, praasa of the slokaas than to the order of the sentence.
So while understanding and interpreting the "slokaas" in Sanskrit definitely one will make a wrong step.
So the pupils are mostly used to by-heart the slokas and learnt the summaries from Guru's.And on the other hand the language is highly used in pure gramatical way and only guru's/masters could give the students right interpretation.
taruvaata taruvaata kUDaa vaaDuka bhaasha gaa kUDaa saMskratamu aMta gaa praachuryamu poMdakapOvaTamutO "SlOkaalu" by-heart chEsE level vaRaku maatramE uMDipOyaayi.E guruvu Emi chepitE adE interpretationayyiMdi.

namastE..KSKK
tantraalakuu kuuda chintakaayalu raalavandii..:))
we should get our minds rid of such crap.
That is the most important thing.
Read my earlier post on bhagavadgeeta..below.

namastE..
when it comes to discussing what is there in our ancient sriptures there is no place for our PG specialisation or particular branch of engg.
we can read books on religion and philosophy and state what we understood.
whether one wants to be carried away by the very mention of our "acient scriptures " is a different matter.
what I want to say is all those puraanas and vedaas and vedaangaas and upanishads are nothing but man's wonderings about atma ,paramatma, and his place in this world and connection to the world above. These contemplations are worth studying to assess their relevance today(which i mentioned in previous post)
one should take an abjective, overall view of this literature, and study them to understand what is on the minds of the composers of these books and their relevance today.(ofcorse the ARE relevant to SOME extent.full stop.)
most of the pages in them are devoted to
things which have no practical usefulness like mantras and tantraas and appeasing the gods and sacrifices.
In India the "Varnaa vyavasta" started from the time of Rig Veda if I am correct.
They divided society to into four varnas and assigned their respective duties..probably for the purpose of assigning clear -clut duties and obligations to everyone:
Barhmin:monopolist of all saastraas and knowledge,to aid king in his duties, perform yajnaas and things like that.
Kshatriya:the king,protector of praja
vaisya:the businessman,trader
shudra:who doe menial work.
probably this system worked well at those times under those conditions.Probably no Shudra dare rose his voice and said"I cant do such and such things".People accepted it as a way of life and they even didnt know what else they could do or how else they could live in a better mannner.Practicaly the lower varnas had no minds and no thinking of their own. They just followed the orders.
Now the poem u mentioned says how these varnas originatd:
The bahmin from the mouth of "KAALAPURUSHA(?),the shudras from the feet and so son.
If it is not crap what else?
can u impose same kind of rules on people now?
Our ex-president K.R.N belongs to some lower caste.
Our present PM is ?
This whole bullshit of varna system and caste system did more harm to India than any other thing in the whole history of India.
Now see our present society..innumerable castes and subcastes and divisions and sects. In politics too they now play a major role and everybody belongs one caste/group identity or the other.
The vistim is the unity of our country.
Budhism and jainisim are different from communism.
Like I said earlier it is a pity that udhism couldnt flourish in the country of its origin but flourishes elsewherein Japan and china.
The reason is the great resiliense of Hinduism which encompases and engulfs all sects. It wont let any other sect araise which oppposes it.
we need to study History tolearn past mistakes and make the future better.
Now a days who cares who is brahmin or kshatriya or shudra except, ofcorse in politics or in matrimonials(this too if fading away , a good sign!)
