Posted by: Saleem At: 30, Nov 2004 3:00:06 PM IST Lets talk about basho's haiku :-)
how many images are there in that poem? and what are they trying to explain?
I always had this opinion about haiku. It is about how amusingly connected images it presents. Putting aside 5-7-5 rule, the real beauty Haiku is that, those 3 lines presents 2 contrasting or comparative images, independent of each other. But each enriches the meaning of the other and both of them together completes one event.
And the Basho's haiku u quoted is most famous one, and english writers affectionately call it "crow ku".
Now what does a crow on bare tree and an evening of cold represents? what could basho exactly felt in this haiku? any takers? :-)
