When I am a five letter word i am below you. dont dare to remove the first letter then i will be above you. If you remove first two letters i will be around you......guess the word .........

it should be 15621... check it once again...
Posted by: Du At: 11, Apr 2005 5:47:29 PM IST I used bruteforce logic here ...
If the total number of coconuts is x, then (x-1)/5 must be an integer too, being first dacoit's share ..
The remaining number coconuts, say y = x-first dacoit's share -1 must also be an integer ..
And so must be (y-1)/5, being second dacoit's share .. and so on ... upto the fifth dacoit ..
The final number of coconuts, say z, must leave a remainder of 1 when divided by 5 .. that is (z-1)/5 is also an integer ..
so ..
The minimum number where all these formulae result in integers is 3121 .. The next numbers in the sequence are 6246, 9371 .. with approximately 3100+(some delta) being the arithmetic mean

Posted by: Malakpet Rowdy At: 10, Apr 2005 5:57:49 AM IST MR... check the answer again asNayak saar pointed out..
Posted by: Du At: 9, Apr 2005 10:45:00 AM IST 3156 - 632 (631 +1)= 2524

Posted by: Malakpet Rowdy At: 9, Apr 2005 8:18:57 AM IST There are 5 dacoits and they have some coconuts with them. They decided to distribute them in the morning and went to sleep. At 1 a.m. 1st dacoit woke up and took his share(1/5 of the lot), but one coconut was left out. He gave it to a monkey. At 2 a.m. 2nd dacoit woke up and he took his share(i.e. 1/5 of the remaining lot), again one coconut was left out. He also gave it to the monkey. The same process was repeated by dacoit 3,4 and 5. They all woke up at 6 a.m. and distributed the coconuts among themselves equally, again one coconut was left out. They gave it to the monkey. What is the minimum value of coconuts(in the beginning) for this process to happen.
