1. 44 is right as Malak rightly eliminated 14 - it would be actually fun solving this without excel :-) 2. It is between 2.05 and 2.07, exact is 5 5/11 minutes past 2'o clock. Nice work Malak and Niranjan. I forgot abt the 'Answers to puzzle' thread to avoid spoilers, we'll use it next time.

Well Niranjan, Lets see what Cluey says ... ____________________________ And here is how I went about the Puzzle 1. First assumption was that the man was born before 1900 and died after 1900, as per the question asked As the Birth year of the man was 29 times his age, I used excel sheet to geenrate two columns of data .. the cells of the first column had numbers from 1 to 100 and the other had the numbers in those cells multiplied by 29. There were only 2 rows that referred to the case of man being born before 1900 and being dead after that. Age Birth Year 64 1856 ( ie 64*29) 65 1885 ( ie 65*29) (All others were leading to the man dying before 1900 or taking birth after 1900 - so I discarded them) In the first case, the year of death was 1856 + 64 = 1920 ( and he would have been 44 in 1900)and in the second case it was 1950. ( and he would have been 15 in 1900) The second assumption was that the man died before 1930 (Since the question was first asked in 1930) .. so I eliminated the 1950 case .. That results in 44 as the answer .. (Hope I am correct .. keeping the fingers crossed!)

I didnt prefer 3:10 because the hand moves slightly below "3" when the time is 3:10

Hehe Niranjan .. I was a few seconds earlier :))

Two cases for (2) IF IT IS BETWEEN 2 and 3 (actual time) one might be tempted to say 2:05 (Actual) and 1:10 (What you saw) .. but I would go with something like 2:07 (Actual) and 1:12 (What you saw) IF IT IS BETWEEN 2 and 3 (time you saw) Using the same logic I go with 3:12 (actual) and 2:17 (What you saw), instead of 3:11 or 3:10 (Actual)

Hint for the solution: Use Microsoft Excel :))
