What is the least possible cost to Marco of hiring enough porters so that he can cross the desert and the porters can return home safely? 2)You have two glasses filled with the exact same amount of liquid. One contains wine, the other water. First, take one teaspoon of water from the water glass and pour it into the wine glass. After stirring the wine glass, take a teaspoon of liquid and pour into the water glass. Is there now more wine in the water glass than water in the wine glass, or is there less ? 3)You have two pieces of wire and a lighter. Each piece of wire takes 40 minutes to burn from one end to the other, but burns unevenly. For example, it may only take 7 minutes to burn half the wire, and 33 minutes for the remaining half. 1)You have to boil a single egg for exactly nine minutes. All you have are two hourglasses, able to precisely measure in sand seven and four minutes, respectively. How quickly using only these two hourglasses can you boil with his egg? Ans)It only takes nine minutes to time the egg from the minute you start. First, flip both hourglasses over and start boiling the egg. When the four minute timer runs out, flip it again. When the seven minute timer runs out, flip it over. The egg has been cooking seven minutes. Now when the four minute timer runs out again (after eight minutes) flip the seven minute timer back over. Since the seven minute timer has been running only a minute between flips, there's a minute worth of sand left. And when that minute runs out, the egg will have been cooking for exactly nine minutes. 2)) One day Kerry celebrated her birthday. Two days later her older twin brother, Terry, celebrated his birthday. How come ? Ans)At the time she went into labor, the mother of the twins was travelling by boat. The first man said, "I have to go, my wife and daughter are here." The second man turned around and said, "I have to go too, my wife and daughter just arrived as well. How is this possible?
