Posted by: Saleem Shaik At: 30, Dec 2004 10:16:51 PM IST We are still in the process of identifying on how best can we spend the donation amounts. Several proposals are coming on our way.
Some of them are:
To start an educatonal / awareness / training institute for fishermen so that they can improve their skills using the modern technology.
To start a co-operative society for the fishermen.
Housing projects.
Establishing better communication / wireless systems.
Anybody can post their suggestions here.
Posted by: Site Administrator At: 30, Dec 2004 1:16:23 AM IST After a lot of brainstorming, we have decided to team up with the well-known NRI cultural non-profit organization SiliconAndhra in this fund raising effort in USA. Now all the donors will automatically get tax benefits as SiliconAndhra is a registered non-profit organization. People who already donated will also get their tax benefit certificates from Silicon Andhra. Details about this process will be posted shortly at: www.telugupeople.com/tsunami
People who would like to donate in India can do it through Ramakrishna Mutt, Hyderabad. Details can be found at: www.telugupeople.com/tsunami
We decided to drop the idea of collecting clothes and other materials due to logistical and resource problems. If we know about anybody doing this effort, we will be happy to support them.

Posted by: Saleem Shaik At: 29, Dec 2004 7:12:32 PM IST Dear Friends,
Thanks alot for the generous donations made till now. We would also like to mention, that we didnt have any kind of pre-meditated target for the amount or the number of donars.
All we want to do, is "HELP" in any way possible, with the help of people, no matter how many or how much amount.
We are overwhelmed with the response we got, and we are confident that we wil definitely make a "impact" on the relief operations with your help.
Thanks once again. Apprectiate your generosity.
Posted by: Saleem Shaik At: 29, Dec 2004 0:25:08 AM IST Dear Friends,
We have established contact with the Mandal Revenue Officer(M.R.O) of Machilipatnam(Bundar) in Andhra Pradesh. The initial response from him was that there are not many NGOs working hard. He said, they were receiving food from many sources, but the food is getting wasted. He was of the opinion that Clothes, especially Bed Sheets would be the best way of helping the needy.
We are trying to arrange an event for direct distribution of material(Food, Clothes, etc.) to the victims with the help of the local government officials. We are taking the Govt. Officials help in getting the Victims List, and to find an ideal place to
host the distribution event.

Posted by: Saleem Shaik At: 28, Dec 2004 11:46:29 PM IST Something all of us can do, is to make a small advertisement like we make when we sell cars, with possibly a 'Tsunami Victim' Picture or a article on 'Tsunami Tolls' in bold and urge for generous donation, and post it in the kitchen or bulliten boards of our respective offices.
We can point to the page http://www.telugupeople.com/tsunami/
on TP or for those who would not like to go through the entire credit card process, provide them with your local address where they can mail checks with thier name, so that you can encash them, and send the money to TP from your bank account to TP paypal relief address.
Now for those(and for those of us who are posed this question, by potential donors), who hope to get tax deductions, for the donations, i would appreciate if the intelelctuals in TP who have knowledge with law & tax procedures, post some Q & A for similar issues. Please !!
Also, posting such posters at other public places like a mall bulliten board, or a public park, or your University could also be of some help.
One more possibility, is to code a donation page which should be easy for 'programmers out of us' and host that page with our web servers, and power it using Paypal Donations buttons. To make the process easy, make sure your specify the email address to that of the TP, so that donation goes directly to TP.I would update everybody once i build one such page, so that users can easily donate, using credit card, rather than registering to paypal. Also, i can provide code(in PHP) once completed, for those who would like to host it on thier webservers.
I am on it, after giving some donation myself. How about you, my fellow Indian ?
