Actually an assumption has been made inthis problem that the rate of outflow is constant, irrespective of the volume of the water in the tank at any given pint of time (the 7 hour time for outlet pipe is valid only when the tank is assumed to be full) - So, thinking about it practically, if we assume that the rate of flow varies, depending on the water level in the tank, the answer to this puzzle could vary and it would be slightly on the higher side somewhere between 75-80% :)

71% of the tank? x + x/6 - x/7 in 1 hour (x=full tank) so... 43x/42 in 1 hr so in .73 hours, .73*42/43 = .71x

A large water tank has two inlet pipes (a large one and a small one) and one outlet pipe. It takes 1 hours to fill the tank with the large inlet pipe. On the other hand, it takes 6 hours to fill the tank with the small inlet pipe. The outlet pipe allows the full tank to be emptied in 7 hours. What fraction of the tank (initially empty) will be filled in 0.73 hours if all three pipes are in operation?
