Thats correct because the Objective of the community is to serve others thru educations and spiritual awareness .. thats why Brahmins were mostly teachers and priests. Even the Agraharams they managed were not their own .. they could never sell them ...
The concept was simple .. A Brahmin is supposed to impart education and provide spiritual guidance to the society whereas others offer him Dakshina.
Gandhiji was not a Brahmin ..
Yes - Brahmins were not used to hardwork because they never trained to be so .. they were supposed to be intellectually strong so that they could play the roles of guides .. thats why they stuck to Vegetarian food, that believed to sharpen the brains instead of meat that would make them stronger.

I Am Talking About The Past When Seeds Were Sown. That Effect Still Exists. Not Today (May Be Still In Some Rural Areas).
Brahmins Nowadays Might Be Leaving In Worst Conditions Because They Do Not Know And Are Used To "Hard Work". There Was Always A Work For Them As Someone Was Performing Some Kind Of Puja. Nowadays Common Man Has No Time To Perform Full Time Pujas Leaving His Work. There Is Some Saying It Seems That Brahmins Shouldn't Work But Can Do "Bikshaatana". That's Ridiculous.
BTW, Isn't Gandhi A Brahmin ?

I agree with you to some extent .. whatever you have been saying had been applicable to the 19th century. Brahmins were never a dominating force in the 20th century right, either politically or financially- so why blame them for someone else's agony.. is it because the brahmins are the soft targets and too weak to react like Raju's Chowdary's Reddys are Kapus?
Take statistics of atrocities against Dalits in all the cases post independence and check out how many of the perpetrators of crime have been brahmins!
May be 4-5 generations ago the scenario was different but the current day Dalits, especially were definitely not at the mercy of brahmins anytime. On the contrary, its actually the brahmin community thats living in some of the worst conditions!
By the way, the word DALIT is not a derogatory word (It means suppressed) and its not Brahmins who coined that word .. Dalits didnt like the word Harijan coined by Gandhiji and came out with an alternative word like this.

Well, that way .. the word "Dalit" has originated from within themselves ... so Technically speaking .. Dalits created themselves :))
But the actual meaning of Dalit is "Suppressed" .. so a section of the Brahmin community also falls under that category if we look at it technically :))
