Really very heartrending. So sad. I am very sorry for this incident.
Yes, she should be sportive.
But friends also must be co-operative and encouraging. In this incident, the authorities make fun of her by saying hurting words. Their response is not good. May be it takes time. It is not the matter. Why should they announce that, she will be awarded on a particular function? Gold Medal is not made by Gold, Copper will also be mixed. Is this a great thing(getting first rank in first year M.B.B.S.) to get gold medal? like that.
How one can feel who works very hard and aspire for the accolades !! Friends also teased her without understanding her mood and discouragement and depression.
She might be very very sensitive, otherwise she would not have committed suicide.
That's why we should keep in mind that:
Never underestimate the influence and impact of our words on other persons.

yesterday one medico by name Rajeswari have made suicide on a silly issue.She is very clever and she was top in medicine first year and she was awarded gold medal.But in the annual function she was not given gold medal at the function.She was disappointed because she came with family members for the annual function.Generally it takes time to get the gold medal.Because she didnt get the gold medal,she felt inferiority and she made sucicide.Its very bad and we all should feel sorry for her.I request all the students to be bold and dare.They should face the problems and reach their goal.
