Swapna garu, These kind of incidents are going on. I heard about the same going on in Pakistan too. And also an article in Vaartha in Cheli page about the suicide of a girl for failing in her love(the person whom she loved denied marrying her) and in their tribe, that girl should be bought by anybody. But that girl should touch the feet of the buyer to show her acceptance. She didn't do that. But she has to go with him. Since no one came to her rescue, she committed suicide. Very heartrending incidents. How can we stop them? Is there any proper way which we can adopt to stop them?(we condemn them, but no use).
Posted by: Ms. Prasanthi Uppalapati At: 4, Oct 2002 9:45:34 AM IST Express our concern about the sentence of death by stoning which was passed on Ms Amina Lawal, on 22 March, by a local court at Bakori in Katsina State.
It was particularly distressing to learn about this judgement in view of the recent and very welcome decision by the Appeal Court in Sokoto State to uphold the appeal of Ms Safiya Hussaini, who had also been sentenced to be stoned to death.
The sentence on Ms Lawal has provoked a world-wide wave of shock and revulsion. There is general disbelief that Nigerian women, living in a democracy, could be sentenced to such a cruel, inhumane and degrading punishment, which runs completely counter to the International Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhumane and Degrading Treatment and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
I urge you to use your wisdom of office and growing international respect to ensure that this sentence is not carried out.
Please ensure that all citizens of Nigeria - men and women - are protected by the rule of law, and in accordance with international standards of human rights, from such cruel, inhumane and degrading punishments as the sentence passed on Ms Amina Lawal.

Hello Friends, Please help one woman from death by just signing the document in this webpage. Ameena Lawal, a nigerian woman, is sentenced to the death by stones. Her crime is having a child outside marriage. Whatever she may be, she is the mother of 8 year old baby. Our Supreme Court acquitted Mrs. Nalini for being a mother from Rajiv's Assassination case. Here this woman is not even accused in any such cases. Very cruel punishment - throwing stones at a woman until she dies. Do we really in a civilised world or barbaric world? Do we belong to 21st century or to Old Stone age? Let us join hands to try to save her. You just need to sign a document.
I got this webpage address from a NET friend. I saw this in news and felt sorry for her and thought what could we do for her !!Here is an opportunity to all the people who felt like that. Amnesty International is trying to save her. So let us join hands and prove ourselves as humans.

with regards,
Prasanthi.
