General Forum: Offbeat n Jokes | what u do on V' DAY... | |
|
As the legend say’s that valentine day is celebrated in remembrance of
a priest in Rome named Valentine. Valentine was a priest in Rome at the
time when Christianity was a new religion. The Emperor at that time was
Claudius II. He ordered the Roman soldiers not to marry or become
engaged. Claudius believed that as married men, his soldiers would want to
stay home with their families rather than fight his wars. Valentine
disobeyed the Emperor's order and secretly married the young couples. He
was eventually arrested, imprisoned, and executed. Valentine was beheaded
on February 14th, the eve of the Roman holiday Lupercalia. After his
death, Valentine was named a saint. As Rome became more Christian, the
priests moved the spring holiday from the 15th of February to the 14th -
Valentine's Day. Now the holiday honored Saint Valentine
In my opinion Valentine’s Day is a day as any another day but what
makes it so special is that of it’s popularity among the young couples who
are in love.
As always, we tried to emulate the west, people in India also started
celebrating v-day in their own styles.
Being single doesn’t have any kind of significance as such but most of
the youngsters who celebrate, would always want to spend that day with
some one special.
As v-day is generally well known as “lovers day”, people who are in
love exchange gifts to express their love/affection unto them. As we see
in the movies the guy gets his girl friend a bunch of roses to express
his feelings unto her and says the customary 3 words “I Love You”.
Apart from roses people generally present chocolates, greeting cards,
taking his/her friend to a good restaurant to have a nice meal.
Some people have various kinds of intuitions of finding a girl/boy
friend, finding their soul mates on that day.
Most of the times people do expect to have a long time relations with
their valentines and some say that on this day the cupid (son of the
Venus, the goddess of love) shoots arrows at the hearts of the victims,
the arrows that made them deeply fall in love. Few people also try to
reconcile themselves from the disputes they had in the past with their
loved ones.
