Does it imply that
one old man plus his child plus his child's child?
This is one possibility, because you did not say '2 men/women' were playing.

The game they were playing also produced a result,which made the total games 4 and the rest follows..

Two children were playing chess.
They played three games.
Each child won the same number of games yet there was no statement(there were no matches drawn by any one).
How was this possible?
