General Forum: Govt. and Politics | India - A Permanent member of the Security Council | |
| This is what UN (US)requested to send Indian Army force to Iraq.
Posted by: Mr. M Kumar N At: 5, Dec 2003 5:01:57 PM IST Thanks Lakshmi..One again it is people like you are the real salt of this earth. It is people like you who is ready to debate issues in the market place and actually DO THINGS like swami Vivekananda said make India great.
1----- First I wanted to report Senator Joseph Lieberman, Democratic candidate for the Presidency of the United states has backed India's claim to Security Council seat. So also Senator Kennedy. I am sure even people like Senator Hillary Clinton will support India's claim.
2.---- I wanted government of India to force the issue since US badly wants Indian goverments' support in fighting terrorism.
Unluckily, Bush government has very few friends in the world and they are in search of REAL FRIENDS.
France and Germany hate Bush government. China cannot stand Bush's policies. Russia is not very happy with what Bush is doing. So too all Muslim nations.
So my point is if Government of India brings this up, Bush government will do everything in their power to please government of India. Let us face it Bush government has no love affair with Pakistan. They are simply using Pakistan to annihilate Bin ladin.
I am actually quoting KAUTILYA SUTRA, where Kautilya states a Raja has win his goals what ever and which ever he can...STRIKE THE IRON WHEN IT IS HOT....Now is the one and only chance for India to become a permanent member.
3----I wanted to change the name of India to BHARAT so that many intellectuals will start discussing about India in all the new papers and TV and radio shows. These discussions will never be cheap publicity...
With my knowledge of TV/radio/print media in US, I can assure you that change of name will only help India. By the way, I have appeared in many radio and TV talk shows in US.
4—You wrote; "Youth need to know more about Secularism and Economic Development. People are not at all interested to know about Religion. Due to many bad incidents all over the world, people are somewhat indifferent to religion." ----
I agree 100% what you wrote.... If you have the opportunity to read my book, you will know that I have no "love affair" with any religion...What I have written is a detailed report about HINDU CULTURE...
What I have written my book is a narration of my own search after truth. That is the reason why my book is greeted even by catholic seminaries, Baptist libraries...
5----I fully agree with you. Through few words you have expressed a lot of things plaguing religions...
Like Swami Vivekananda I wanted say only through concrete measures we can come up. By just chanting "ram, ram" a nation cannot come up. We need jobs.. We need good housing... We need education....Like you I cannot stand any one who uses religion for selfish needs. I cannot stand any one who uses religion for laziness.
6— Hinduism made me what I am today....I am a peaceful fighter. Without screaming and without fist fighting with any one , I have achieved quite a lot in my life.
When I read Gita, I see myself fighting in the world..I do not see myself lamenting ...
I use Hinduism to better myself and every one around me. Through my book I have influenced THINKING PROCESS of countless Indian children around the globe.. My humble book has helped many . I get more than 400 e-mails a month and I am an engineer by profession
7—Once again I cannot stand anyone who sits idle and call himself a sadhu. I really wish you could read my book .
By the way, I have not accepted any royalties from my book. I have given away countless copies to Hindu temples and young India students around the globe.
8----I honestly feel we can use Hinduism to our advantage. It is sad that much of the Hinduism preached in India is promoting INACTION even though Gita stands for ACTION.
After Gita discourse, Arjuna did not ran away to forest, instead he fought a fierce war. So any one who says that HINDUISM STANDS FOR LAZINESS AND INACTION is a liar.
9---We need an army of men and women who will dedicate to betterment of India... Like King Janaka taught sage Suka, those men and women can POSSESS THINGS. Only thing they have to remember NOT TO BE POSSESSED BY THEM..
What I am saying is that people should become millionaires and during the process when they become millionaires they can help all the people around as well as the nation...
Once upon a time IT WAS VERY COOL TO SAY ‘ I AM PENNILESS".... Now reverse is equally true....Now it is very cool to say I AM A MILLIONAIRE.... The philosophy I am preaching is very positive. India has to come out of its superstitions and have pragmatic approach to probelms it face.
Thanks for writing. I am impressed by your posts.
Posted by: Mr. Ed Viswanathan Viswanathan At: 25, Jun 2003 4:49:19 AM IST Viswanathan garu, Thanks for your response.
I am eagerly waiting for your reply.
1. I think we(people) better do something on our own, strive hard, achieve success and let govt. inspire from us and come forward to do anything required from its side. I could not expect anything from govt. side. I have no illusions. Still, India need to be dynamic and should convince all countries to be United and also it should utilise the American need of India to participate in post-war activities in Iraq to be a permanent member in Security Council.
2. Our Indian Associations abroad, whether big or small, conduct programs occasionally and invite their local friends, explain them about our heritage through various cultural programs.
3. Nellore name was changed to "PottiSreeramulu Nellore Dt.". But nothing happened. Does the change of name brings any positive results? Undoubtedly it will create tremors inside the country and will be a big boon for the people who await for good opportunities to create differences.
4. People blamed the efforts of the present govt. that it is writing the history of its own script.
5. It is our pleasure to know your fruitful efforts to explain about Hinduism. But our youth need to know more about Secularism and Economic Development. People are not at all interested to know about Religion. Due to many bad incidents all over the world, people are somewhat indifferent to religion.
We need more inspiring articles from you.
Posted by: Ms. Prasanthi Uppalapati At: 24, Jun 2003 3:00:11 PM IST Thanks for your comments Ms. Lakshmi Prasanthi Uppalapati. I am impressed by your thought provoking articles all over Internet. Please keep it up.
HOW WE CAN MAKE INDIA A PERMANENT MEMBER of Security Council?
1. INDIA still an ENIGMA in the west. People still thinks elephants and tigers roam in Bumbai streets. [hahaha] and Indira Gandhi is the daughter of Mahatma Gandhi. So we have to start a campaign at Indian government level first to eradicate misconceptions about India.
2. We have to educate masses, specially in the west all about India. Any amount of money spent is worth spent. It is about time, government of India put full paid ads in all major newspapers, radio, TV about India, its culture and its people. India a nation of UNITY WITH DIVERSITY should be introduced to the world.
3. To bring world attention to India, I even promote the idea of changing the slang name INDIA to Bharat. That name change will make all the intellectuals to discuss about India in all educational institutions.
4. Unluckily Indian history what people learn are all written by westerners. We have to change that. We need many cultural attaches in all countries educating people about India.
5 There are thousands of Indian cultural and political associations in US and Canada alone. Those associations should make part of their agenda to educate the world about India and also talk in a unified voice for making India a permanent member.
IGNORANCE IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF ALL PROBLEMS. We have to eradicate ignorance. That is what I did in 1988. I happened to write and publish a QUESTION & ANSWER discussion book between a American born Indian teenager and his middle aged father all about every aspect of Hinduism. When I published AM I A HINDU? [www.amaiahindu.com] including my close relatives and friends thought nobody will read a book written by an engineer about Hinduism.
By the grace of God, today my humble book is used by many universities in West to educate students about Hinduism. My book is a MUST read for students in Loyola University, Chicago. The book was fortunate to receive rave reviews by almost all Indian magazines and News papers. LIBRARY JOURNAL and BOOKLIST magazines recommend this book for all libraries.
WHAT IS MY POINT? We can do a lot to educate masses about India. I did it in my own personal way and my humble efforts attain amazing success. Each one of us should stand up and promote India in world stage. That is the only way we can bring up India. Apathy on our part will only make others to promote false information about India. Thanks edvis9@hotmail.com

you provided us a very good information about India on a very good topic. Yes. We all wish the same. But is there any way to let our Government and UN know our aspirations? Does any signature movement help?
Suggest us the ways too out of your experience and influence.
Posted by: Ms. Prasanthi Uppalapati At: 16, Jun 2003 1:50:40 PM IST After seeing how five permanent members of the Security Council feuded over the war with Iraq, we have to seriously think about making India the biggest democracy in the world, a permanent member of the Security Council.
Right now the permanent members are China, France, Russia, United Kingdom and United States. The status quo of the permanent members has not changed since the council's first meeting in 1946.
Long before President Nixon's historical visit to China, India was the only nation, who was screaming for the admission of communist China into United Nations.
Amazing that India was doing that when China attacked India. Paradoxically Communist China is a permanent member in the Security Council, where as the biggest democracy has no place in the Security Council! That is a shame.
Let us look at some facts. India was the first country, which preached Nuclear disarmament. It has more than one billion people. Hindus, Moslems, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Bahaies, and Jews live in harmony in India. Moslem population in India is only second to that of Indonesia in the world. It is a nuclear power. Indian army is the 2nd biggest in the world.
After British left India in 1947, India always have democratic government. India is the spearhead of the non - alignment movement during cold wars and still a very major force in Asia.
To achieve a proper regional balance of powers in the Security Council, India has to be made a permanent member. Today Security Council is over represented by the western countries and under represented by Asia and Africa.
Many like Ex President Clinton have stated India is a natural contender for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council. Secretary General Kofi Annan has warned that lack of reform could weaken the council's standing in the world. How could anyone ignore India, the champion of Democracy?
President Bush wants to sow the seeds of democracy all over middle east. If that is his objective, how can we continue to have a Security Council with out India as a permanent member? We need the assistance of democratic governments like India to sow seeds of democracy all over the world.
