-----------------------------
Deva-sayani, or Vishnu-sayani, indicates the day when Lord Vishnu goes to sleep with all the devas (demigods). It is said that after this day one should not perform any new auspicious ceremonies until DevotthAni EkAdasii, which occurs during the month of KArtika (October – November), because the devas (demigods), being asleep, cannot be invited to the sacrificial arena and because the Sun is travelling along its Southern course (Dakshinayanam).

Posted by: UK At: 10, Jul 2003 10:58:31 AM IST Celebrated In : Coastal Areas
Celebrated by : Farmers
Hindus regard Toli Ekadasi as a scared day especially for the farmers. This festival is something similar to the 'Eruvaka' Festival, which is celebrated by the farmers. On this day farmers perform 'pooja' to the agricultural implements.
As it considered sacred by farmers new people join farming on this day. People fast on this day and at the break of dawn they offer prayers and break the fast by eating fruits.
