Hello Kiran,
Thank you for contacting Cisco Systems End-User Presales department for
the
United States and Canada. At this department, we provide general
product
family information for Small to Medium Business products. We appreciate
your
interest in our company and look forward to helping you with all of
your
networking needs.
We have received your inquiry about the difference between the two
ethernet
types. I am assuming by "Ethernet II" you mean (Ethernet Type II) and
that
you are comparing this to the IEEE 802.3 standard. If so the
difference
between these frames are:
Ethernet Type II has a 'Type' field in place of the 'Length' field and
Type
II does not have an 802.2 header in the 'Data' field.
Thank You.

Posted by: Mr. manoopuli At: 23, Sep 2003 9:24:37 PM IST Hi Madhu,
The Ethernet Version 2 frame format was designed before the IEEE specifications, but is almost identical to the 802.3 [Ethernet version 1]frame type.
With the Ethernet Version 2 frame type, a two-byte Type field follows the source station's six-byte MAC address.
Pls correct me if am wrong!!
Cheers,
Kiran
