The story versions in those two links are entirely different..donno which one to believe...
Anyway those who indulge in such activities just to satisfy the conditions imposed by their wifes r not complete person..that to for woman who demonstrated fidelity in thought and deed..
And I think mantras cannot convert man to infant!!!

Linga means a symbol.God has really no form. We humans give him the human form. As Vivekananda once has said, if dogs think of god, he will be in the form of a dog. To emphasise that god is formless and yet you cannot worship him as abstract nothing, we have given him the nonspecific form of a lingam. Siva is also worshipped in human form with a tiger skin, besmeared with ashes, snakes all over, tied up[ hair with moon. narasimham.

Lord Siva also has a human-type form who sports a snake, trishul, dhamarukam and Ganga!
