Posted by: Mr. jogarao pilla At: 9, Nov 2003 11:07:15 AM IST The hindu religion has made provision for the priest class to spread the divinity among the people and these rituals have been practised in earlier days to keep these priest class engaged somehow to feed them rather than to serve the real purpose for which we need to obsrve them.
Posted by: Mr. jogarao pilla At: 7, Nov 2003 4:56:21 PM IST And we are also not sure how long a departed soul will take to take another body whatsoever! Moreover, do the dead care about these rituals anymore being done for them by these foolish alive!
Posted by: Mr. venu gopal p At: 7, Nov 2003 4:48:30 PM IST The pitru loka where there is a belief that the dead remain there for the next turn is far off from the earth and due to the distence away from earth the time factor also contracts there and that is why we believe that one day in pitru loka is eqivalent to one year to !But this is only our belief and that is why even the sraaddha karma(annhual ritual to remember the dead) is being observed once in every year !But I must say that if we believe in rebirth this karma kaandaa becomes useless since the dead might have taken birth elsewhere and living another life!
Posted by: Mr. jogarao pilla At: 6, Nov 2003 12:54:18 PM IST Is it so jogarao garu? Our one year is equal to one day for our dead? can you please elaborate a bit on this ?
Posted by: Mr. venu gopal p At: 6, Nov 2003 11:25:02 AM IST As a matter of fact we have to observe the annual ceremonies on the thidhi or date of death of our elders and because in these modern days particularly in cities and urban areas people who could not observe these annual ceremonies particularly observe the Next day of sankanthi what we call as Kanuma as the peddapanduga (Elders festival) since one year to us means one day in that pitru loka.
Posted by: Mr. jogarao pilla At: 5, Nov 2003 10:54:33 AM IST yes yes.....Jogarao garu. Sankaranti is the festival when Hindus worship their dead by offering food apparently to please the spirits much in the same way as Halloween Day.
Posted by: Mr. pvg p At: 5, Nov 2003 10:48:31 AM IST we prepare a mixture of cooked rice with dal and ghee as a bundle and offer it to fire or crows who represent the dead as per our belief.
