| India and Pakistan agreed on
- Free trade
- to fight against terrorism (cricket)
Pakistan can enjoy Indian goods by the direct supply ratherv than through UAE. Indian share market already at record high.

Precisely my point! There are a lot more uneducated religious fanatics in Pakistan and it is therefore easy to influence them with the Religion card. The only reason they are against the Americans is because they are bombing, in their view, islamic fundamentalists!
I agree with you that the educated lot see a different side and are totally in favour of the two countries getting along.
Unfortunately, there does not seem to be anyone else in the immediate horizon, who will be for a friendly relationship with India.
Even the so-called well educated Imran Khan is resorting to using "religion" as a method for him to gain more power and he has so far NEVER made any friendly noises towards India!

Swapna - WELL SAID!! I agree with you 100%

We can be optimistic. The reasons are the people of Pakistan are very much against America and its actions. They very much know that Americans can target them (because of fundamentalist groups). Also normal people and educated elite are very much for good relationship with India. They are vexed by the tensions and shellings at the border.
So if Musharaff(ruler) sheds his enemity, no problem with the people.
Good signs for Subcontinent. We can hope so.
Posted by: Ms. Prasanthi Uppalapati At: 6, Jan 2004 10:27:56 AM IST I agree with you, Ms Prasanthi. It is about time that both India and Pakistan made some headway towards resuming a working relationship.
One must not forget that if Musharaff gets taken out, then Pakistan could become a very volatile country as there does not seem to be anyone reasonable in the vicinity. This can only lead to unnecessary tensions between the borders, which could halt India's progress for the future, which would be a great shame.
I agree that Pakistan is making the effort if only to please the US, so that they don't get sanctions imposed on them. They realise that the sanctions will affect Pakistan a lot more than India. As for ending the enemity, I think this will take a very long time - but somehow, I am not that optimistic on that front, despite all these efforts by the two leaders.
Posted by: Mr. Gowrishankar Garigiparthy At: 5, Jan 2004 9:11:13 PM IST You people made fun of the very serious topic. I don't know whether it is hatred for Pakistan or usual way of diverting the discussion.
But whatever be the reason behind the scenes, the play is good. It is for the good of Indian Subcontinent and especially for Kashmiris.
Musharaff's musings are nothing but a Daemon's sermon. ( deyyaM vEdaM valliMchuTa ) But still he is a good leader and patriot of Pakistan. The sudden change and warm welcome from the other side of the border is nothing but fear of Uncle Sam. ( daMDam daSa guNaM bhavEt )
Resumption of the conveyance between India and Pakistan is the need of the hour. One on one relationship between people of India and Pakistan will put an end to the age long enemity.
