We recently started a group called ARCH/ShiFT which is basically meant for some social work in free time. Though it initally consisted of chatters from Rediff .. it expanded quite fast and reached others too .. if you have the urge to do something for the society and interested in our club, you are invited to join us.

One of our major activies to create awareness about ORGAN DONATON. Here are some bried FAQs about what we are
1. Who are we?
We are a group of entusiastic chatters with an urge to do something for the society. The Society has given us so much all these years and we feel its now time we gave it something in return
While ARCH is a chatter group, itz sister concern SHiFT ( Service & Help in Free-Time) is a full fledged group meant for social work.
2. What do we comprise of?
People! People!! and People!!! Our people come from all sections of society - various communities, different academic backgrounds, diversified professions and various age groups. The younger members of the group are still in their teens and the older members are 50+. We have Students, Doctors, Accountants, Businessmen, Advertizing Profssionals, Software Professionals, Healthcare professionals, Techies, Scientists, Housewives, Ex- Armymen, Civil Sevants, Researchers and many more with us. The members of ARCH ( called archies) are chatters but SHiFT includes chatters and non-chatters as well.
3. Our Objectives
No Hi-funda stuff! Keep it simple - we just want to do something good, whatever it may be!!
4. The way we plan to do things
We are still young - too young to do great things on our own - So, as of now, we plan to align ourselves with various self-help groups, offer our services and resources to them. In Other words WE HELP OTHERS IN HELPING OTHERS. But at times we do undertake some activities on our own like supporting the kids at orphaages, serving the old-aged, helping the critically ill etc
5. What dragged us towards organ donation?
The main reason is the controversy surronding it. Accept it or not, there are many who come forward to help otehrs in distress when its related to food, clothing and shelter - but when it comes to Organ donation as of today, there are not many who would want to participate. As we see it, there are three major reasons for this -
* Lack of awareness - Not many people know that many of the Organs can be reused. People know only about eye-donation
* Sentimental/Religious reasons - Many of the people feel that it is against religion to donate organs and also tend to overlook the issue since they dont want to talk about death.
* Inability to find right sources - Most Pitiable! People want to donate thir organs but cant find the right people whocan helpthem at right time.
We saw a challege in dealing with these issues and decided to create awareness among the public. As of religious reasons, we have not come across any religion specifically opposing organ donation. However we advise the donors to contact their respective relegious / cultural heads and take their opinion. We plan to be a medium through which donors can contact the right people. We work with MOHAN foundation, an organization that dedicated itself to organ harvesting.
We were inspired by newspaper reports ( In leading dailies like Deccan Chronicle and Eenadu) about Organ donation activites of Mohan foundation and wanted to align with them. Thanks to their immediate response, we could together form a group that now works towards organ pledging.
A message for the people who dont want to talk about death .... HAVEN'T YOU INSURED YOUR LIVES? ... so ... if insurace doesnt mean death why should organ pledging mean?
