If victims wont revolt against it, noone can eradicate it completely. Pathetically majority of them either choose to give the dowry or choose to die, but not revolting aginst it.

I would say many Indians maintain an apathetic attitude towards the dowry problem.

huh.. Hypocritic attitude of many NRI's trying to disregard the evil parts of India.
I am sure you must not have really believed that.. I dont know about the rich but I do think all middle class and poor women suffer due to this.
For example.. Apart from 6000-7000 dowry deaths per year (recorded) think about the women who are harrassed for dowry, who are beaten and who are mentally tortured by saying "your parents didnt give me sufficiently", think about the unmarried brides commiting sucides because they do not want to be a burden on their parents , or the mental depression or the helplessness a middle class or poor father faces because he is not able to give dowry..

DOWRY IS ILLEGAL .. PERIOD..
burdnered with women.. in many countries in the world women are financially dependent/ earn less than men.. They do not take dowry.
Dowry became a problem in India only in the 20th century.. we are moving backwards and find ways to justify it as your friend was doing.
Dowry = prostitution. perhaps prostitutes do it for one night.. dowry takers do it for life.. simple.I symptahize more with prostitutes than dowry seekers because they do that because they have no other way to feed themselves.
