"""" Naidu: I’ll win ‘exact poll’ """""""""

Hyderabad/New Delhi, April 27: Caretaker Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said he would go by the results of the “exact” polls and not exit polls. He conceded to his BJP ally, however, that it would be a “close fight.”
A day after almost all exit polls predicted his exit, Naidu said some surveys had “intentionally” given misleading figures, while others did not adopt scientific methodology.
Naidu himself refused to play psephologist. “Only those who lose will talk about numbers,” he said, forgetting his promise about predicting the TD’s tally immediately after the polls.
Naidu then took off on the Election Commission. He accused the EC of pressuring on the State to delete names and keep voters were kept at a certain percentage. “Opposition complaint chesaka that K J Rao (EC special observer) pichchiga behave chesadu. Violent gaa react ayyadu,” (Following complaints from Opposition, the special official reacted madly and violently),” he said.
The administration, following the EC’s hasty reaction, became panicky and deleted names randomly and indiscriminately. “The common man was deprived of his constitutional right.” he said.
Earlier, Naidu assured Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani over phone that he would retain power in the State. In New Delhi, BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said he spoke to the TD chief who told him that he would win but it would be a close fight.
Women support
He said there was an undercurrent of support from among women and youth. He refuted the Opposition’s claim that State staff employees and farmers had worked against the TD. “Officials who are dishonest and feel overburdened with the tasks I gave them must have voted against us,” he said. Asked about his partymen fixing May 13 for the swearing-in, Naidu said he would invite the media in advance.
Debate on poll timing
Naidu called for a debate on the timing of elections and role of the governments when the election code was in vogue. Referring to a caretaker government ruling the State for more than six months, he said because of EC guidelines he could not attend to relief and emergency tasks. Asked whether there should be Governor’s rule, he said the debate should incorporate all the issues.

Posted by: Venkat Kadiyala At: 26, Apr 2004 3:49:42 PM IST A survey done by the govt is supposed to have indicated the following:
Junior Govt employees have not voted for him because he has stopped playing to their tunes.
Senior officers did not vote for him, because CBN has pushed the case only for non-telugu officers... IAS, IPS etc. He did not want any local people to occupy powerful positions. Hence across the state senior officials are seething with shame and anger.
Telugus in Hyderabad have not voted because the only beneficiaries are outsiders. The percentage of telugus in most IT companies has been falling drastically. (I am personally aware of cases where recruiters in top IT companies (incl a telugu owned one!!) have said "pl send only non-telugu resumes" to headhunters.)
Middle class in Hyderabad has seen the Jubilee Hills road laid 5 times in 1 year. Roads in other areas have not been laid even once in last 5 years.
Outside Hyderabad people have not voted because nothing has been developed there.
