General Forum: Religion | ~Sufism~ | |
| I forgot to say that it was for you, Kay since you appear to be quite interested in Sufism. Are you a follower of this order by any chance?
Posted by: Mr. Rish M At: 27, Jun 2004 8:33:26 AM IST "Founded by Hazrat Inayat Khan, The International Sufi Order is "an interfaith approach to spiritual growth." The Order was founded by Pir-O-Murshid Inayat Khan, in order to "spread the message of unity and promote the awakening of humanity to the divinity in all."
Sufism is not so much a religion or doctrine, but rather constitutes practices that immerse one into life, bringing one's highest ideals into everyday practice. They often refer to themselves as the "Religion of the Heart," which seeks to see God in the heart of mankind.
A brochure on the Sufi Order describes it as "a community of seekers who are drawn to the same ideals of service to God and to humanity. Its purpose is to work toward unity, bringing humanity closer together in the deeper understanding of life. It seeks to bring the world that natural religion which has always been the religion of humanity: to respect one another's belief, scripture and teacher. Its message is an awakening of humanity to its inherent divinity."
The Sufi Order describes its approach as "a school for personal transformation and a preparation for service to humanity. Its esoteric teachings deepen a philosophical understanding of life; the personal guidance which is given provides help in the problems of both outer and inner life; retreats which are made available strengthen the effect of the teachings in one's being."
